MBU-12/P Oxygen Mask
The MBU-12/P meets or exceeds the requirements
of U.S. Air Force Specification MIL-M-87163.
The MBU-12/P mask is designed to replace the
MBU-5/P and offers substantial improvement in
comfort and efficiency when compared to the older
mask. The MBU-12/P features a gray silicone rubber
faceseal integrally bonded to a high strength gray
polysulfone plastic hardshell.
The shape of the MBU-12/P mask provides excellent
downward vision. The low profile design brings the
mask close to the face and provides excellent stability
during high G maneuvers. Anti-roll webs at the nose
seal prevent downward roll off. The inherent rigidity
of the integral faceseal/hardshell allows adjustment
to provide superior sealing during pressure breathing.
Four mask sizes are available to assure proper fit and
comfort.
The unique design of the Gentex developed
combination breathing valve distinguishes the
Gentex Model of the MBU-12/P. Using concepts
developed during the space program, this valve offers
greatly reduced exhalation resistance during pressure
breathing. Additionally, the rolling diaphragm reduce
the potential for valve sticking caused by residue
accumulation. The combination valve meets or
exceed all performance requirements of MIL-V-27296.
Performance
Tear Resistance
The silicone rubber used in the manufacture of the
MBU-12/P has a minimum tear resistance of 26269
newtons per meter (150 pounds per inch).
Toxicity
The silicone rubber used in the mask assembly does
not contain any chemicals or materials that have toxic
properties.
Dielectric Strength
The microphone connector withstands without flashover
or breakdown, the application of a 250-volt alternating
potential of commercial line frequency.
