Instructional Services<br />

Health <strong>Ed</strong>ucation<br />

Conducted approximately 20 professional development health‐related<br />

workshops/conferences for approximately 200 teachers, counselors,<br />

administrators, social workers, nurses, and food service directors.<br />

Directed and implemented the Comprehensive <strong>School</strong> Health Program<br />

grant through the Michigan Department of Community Health and<br />

Michigan Department of <strong>Ed</strong>ucation.<br />

Helped schools with the MDE requirements for health education and<br />

health education teachers.<br />

Coordinated professional development for new physical education<br />

teachers.<br />

Conducted numerous Medicaid outreach activities to encourage families<br />

to access health services.<br />

Provided support for schools to implement the Coordinated <strong>School</strong><br />

Health Programs Model.<br />

Guided schools in creative ways to implement comprehensive health<br />

education, including collaboration with police liaisons and county<br />

health department prevention counselors.<br />

Distributed the Michigan Physical <strong>Ed</strong>ucation Standards and Benchmarks<br />

to area Physical <strong>Ed</strong>ucation teachers.<br />

Safe & Drug Free<br />

Directed and implemented the Safe and Drug Free <strong>School</strong>s and Communities<br />

grant through the Office of Drug‐Control Policy. This involved<br />

24 schools that received direct educational services and financial support<br />

for ATOC (alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs) and violence prevention<br />

efforts.<br />

Provided support for superintendents and local district Sex <strong>Ed</strong>ucation<br />

Advisory Committees, including consultation on legal obligations of<br />

advisory committees and districts regarding sex education.<br />

Consulted with schools on the following issues: Bullying, Violence,<br />

Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs, Obesity, <strong>School</strong> Climate, Peer<br />

Counseling, Asset Development, Sex <strong>Ed</strong>ucation and Drug Counseling.<br />
