Cultural Centres<br />

4.46 The establishment of quality <strong>and</strong><br />

sustainable Ulster-Scots cultural <strong>and</strong><br />

interpretive centres would help address<br />

issues such as <strong>the</strong> social exclusion <strong>and</strong><br />

marginalisation of Ulster Scots by<br />

improving capacity, confidence <strong>and</strong><br />

awareness of <strong>the</strong> value of Ulster Scots<br />

both within <strong>the</strong> Ulster-Scots sec<strong>to</strong>r <strong>and</strong><br />

more broadly across all <strong>the</strong> community.<br />

These centres would also provide an<br />

economic benefit through local<br />

employment opportunities <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

fur<strong>the</strong>r <strong>develop</strong>ment <strong>and</strong> promotion of<br />

cultural <strong>and</strong> <strong>heritage</strong> <strong>to</strong>urism. In <strong>the</strong><br />

longer term a network of local cultural<br />

centres could be established linked <strong>to</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> Ulster-Scots Academy which would<br />

serve as a regional resource for <strong>the</strong>m.<br />

Actions<br />

(a) Develop feasibility studies <strong>and</strong><br />

relevant business cases for Ulster-<br />

Scots <strong>language</strong>, <strong>heritage</strong> <strong>and</strong> cultural<br />

centres.<br />

(b) Secure funding for sustainable<br />

Ulster-Scots <strong>language</strong>, <strong>heritage</strong> <strong>and</strong><br />

cultural centres.<br />

(c) Establish relevant links between <strong>the</strong><br />

cultural centres <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> Ulster-Scots<br />

Academy.<br />

(d) Identify <strong>and</strong> support accredited<br />

Ulster-Scots resource <strong>and</strong> cultural<br />

centres for students, researchers,<br />

visi<strong>to</strong>rs <strong>and</strong> enthusiasts.<br />

(e) Pilot Ulster-Scots Heritage<br />

Heartl<strong>and</strong>s as partnerships between<br />

district councils, schools <strong>and</strong> local<br />
