He/she brings a written doctor’s note that states the student/athlete may participate in athletics. This note should also state that he/she was too ill to attend that part of the school day he/she was absent. He/she has been given permission to miss a part of the school day by the administration of the school. He/she can show a justifiable cause as to his/her tardiness and the Athletic Director approves the tardy as excused. STUDENT PARKING Due to the high number of student drivers coupled with various afternoon activities that require students to be picked up at different locations on campus, student-athletes are not permitted to move their cars to be closer to an athletic competition or practice venue. These no-parking zones include the area immediately in front of the drive thru gate at Eagle stadium and the area surrounding the gymnasium. EAST JACKSON EXECUTIVE COUNCIL The East Jackson Executive Council consists of the Principal, Athletic Director, and head coaches of all sports. The Executive Council is chaired by the Athletic Director, with meetings called as needed. The council acts as an advisory board and has responsibilities in the areas of approving athletic policy, deciding special awards, acting upon appeals made by athletes concerning the code of conduct, and taking care of any unusual circumstances that may arise. A two-thirds vote of those present is needed to render a decision. All voting will be done by secret ballot. NCAA INITIAL ELIGIBILITY CLEARINGHOUSE Students who intend to participate in Division I or II athletics as college freshmen must register and be certified by the NCAA Initial Eligibility Clearinghouse. This registration must be done on line at www.ncaa.org. Keep a hard copy of the consent to release information form and give it to the registrar in the guidance office. After graduation, East Jackson will send the clearinghouse a copy of a student’s final transcript that confirms graduation from high school. CODE OF CONDUCT Training rules are guidelines to allow student athletes the opportunity to become better athletes. The East Jackson program is a year round program, and we expect athletes to participate in this program 100%. Each athlete will be asked to sign a pledge which will be kept on file in the office of the Athletic Director. This pledge is active while a student is enrolled as a student athlete at East Jackson. Athletes are expected to adhere to these rules while they have high school athletic eligibility remaining. Violating the following rules will result in suspension from the athletic program as well as any other school disciplinary action: USE OF INTOXICATING BEVERAGES – the use or possession of an intoxicating beverage in any form or quantity is prohibited. 10
USE OF ILLEGAL DRUGS – the use or possession of illegal drugs (drugs not prescribed by a physician) is prohibited. USE OF TOBACCO – the use or possession of any tobacco product is prohibited. GENERAL CONDUCT: Student athlete’s conduct, in and out of school, shall be such as Not to reflect discredit upon their school, and Not to create a disruptive influence on the discipline, good order, moral, or educational environment. ―Hazing‖ or any type of ―initiation rite‖ will be considered a violation of the General Conduct rules and will be dealt with as a serious matter. Coaches, the Athletic Director, and the administration will determine if an incident is considered hazing. E. FELONY – conviction for breaking a law in the State of Georgia. *Some minor infractions may not fall under the general conduct ruling and will be presented to the Executive Council for an imposed penalty. CODE OF CONDUCT PENALTIES Jackson County Schools Code of Conduct will cover any offenses that occur during school hours or school activities. The following penalties will be imposed for any offenses that occur off campus during an athlete’s career. First Offense: 5-25 hours of counseling before participation AND Intoxicating Beverage Illegal Drugs Tobacco General Conduct Felony - Suspension from 20% of contest - Suspension from 20% of contest - Suspension from 10% of contest - Suspension from 10% of contest - referred to Executive Council Second Offense: 50 hours of counseling before participation AND Intoxicating Beverage Illegal Drugs Tobacco General Conduct - Suspension from 50% of contest - Suspension from 50% of contest - Suspension from 25% of contest - Suspension from 25% of contest Third Offense: One year of suspension from athletic participation If an athlete is suspended from school, he/she will automatically be suspended from all practice and game participation for the period of the school suspension. For a suspension, the following rules will apply: Jamboree or scrimmages will not be considered a contest for suspension purposes. The cause of suspension will be established by charges of law enforcement officials or agencies, observation by members of the administration, faculty, athletic staff, or by the admission of the athlete. All suspensions will be based on contests at which level the athlete participates. 11
