USE OF ILLEGAL DRUGS – the use or possession of illegal drugs (drugs not prescribed<br />

by a physician) is prohibited.<br />

USE OF TOBACCO – the use or possession of any tobacco product is prohibited.<br />

GENERAL CONDUCT:<br />

Student athlete’s conduct, in and out of school, shall be such as<br />

Not to reflect discredit upon their school, and<br />

Not to create a disruptive influence on the discipline, good order, moral, or educational<br />

environment.<br />

―Hazing‖ or any type of ―initiation rite‖ will be considered a violation of the General<br />

Conduct rules and will be dealt with as a serious matter. Coaches, the <strong>Athletic</strong> Director,<br />

and the administration will determine if an incident is considered hazing.<br />

E. FELONY – conviction for breaking a law in the State of Georgia.<br />

*Some minor infractions may not fall under the general conduct ruling and will be<br />

presented to the Executive Council for an imposed penalty.<br />

CODE OF CONDUCT PENALTIES<br />

<strong>Jackson</strong> County <strong>School</strong>s Code of Conduct will cover any offenses that occur during<br />

school hours or school activities. The following penalties will be imposed for any<br />

offenses that occur off campus during an athlete’s career.<br />

First Offense: 5-25 hours of counseling before participation AND<br />

Intoxicating Beverage<br />

Illegal Drugs<br />

Tobacco<br />

General Conduct<br />

Felony<br />

- Suspension from 20% of contest<br />

- Suspension from 20% of contest<br />

- Suspension from 10% of contest<br />

- Suspension from 10% of contest<br />

- referred to Executive Council<br />

Second Offense: 50 hours of counseling before participation AND<br />

Intoxicating Beverage<br />

Illegal Drugs<br />

Tobacco<br />

General Conduct<br />

- Suspension from 50% of contest<br />

- Suspension from 50% of contest<br />

- Suspension from 25% of contest<br />

- Suspension from 25% of contest<br />

Third Offense: One year of suspension from athletic participation<br />

If an athlete is suspended from school, he/she will automatically be suspended from all<br />

practice and game participation for the period of the school suspension. For a<br />

suspension, the following rules will apply:<br />

Jamboree or scrimmages will not be considered a contest for suspension purposes.<br />

The cause of suspension will be established by charges of law enforcement officials or<br />

agencies, observation by members of the administration, faculty, athletic staff, or by the<br />

admission of the athlete. All suspensions will be based on contests<br />

at which level the athlete participates.<br />
