P E T R O C H E M I C A L S D E PA R T M E N T 2- Surfactant laboratory Synthesis of Polymers: • Preparation of surfactants and studying their physical-chemical properties and their applications. • Preparation of plasticizers to be added to cement and studying their rheological properties. • Treatment of environmental pollution. <strong>Research</strong> analysis and services: • Determination of surface tension, interfacial tension, contact angle, sedimentation, penetration, density, critical micelles concentration measurements. • Determination of emulsion stability. • Determination of turbidity for water. • Determining the effectiveness and efficiency of surfactants by CMC measurements. • Wetting behavior of tablets, Pharmaceutical active agents and auxiliaries as well as pigments and wetting of lacquers and paints. • Degradation product content in oils (transformers). • Tank release and cleaning process validation in the food industry. • Wetting and adhesion of coatings. • Developing of cosmetic products. • Wetting properties of link, fiber bundles, textiles or single fibers up to a minimum diameter of 20 um. • Sedimentation and ductility of plaster/concrete. • Checking surface modifications. • molecular weight distribution (MWD) of polymers.
P E T R O C H E M I C A L S D E PA R T M E N T 3- Petrochemical technology laboratory • Studies on conversion reaction of natural gas and petroleum products produced from the distillation of crude oil for production of primary materials necessary for petrochemical industries. • Effect of catalysts on hydrocarbon reactions and polymers. • Environmental science and catalysis. • Gas chromatography and FTIR for different petrochemical products. • Gel permeation chromatography GPC for determining the complete molecular weight distribution (MWD) of polymers. Staff: The number of personnel in the department is (62) Members, (14) Emirates, (10) Prof., (11) Assoc. Prof., (12) Ph.D. Holders, (12) M.Sc. holders and (3) B.Sc. holders. Main projects: 1. TNT explosions waste water treatment using nanotechnology. 2. Controlling the formation of emulsifiers in the tanks of water ballast. 3. Adhesives based on conducting polymeric nanocomposities.
