Problem Solution Egyptian Bentonite The project aims mainly to get the bentonitic clays with specifications suitable for using in the drilling fluids. A geological study conducted to search for this mineral had reached to get the large reserves in different regions. Studies show that these minerals contain Na - Montmorillonite mineral which considered the main component of bentonitic clays. The presence of Na - Montmorillonite in these sediments studied, led to the acquisition of some of these clays. For bentonite properties which call to try to address these clays to be used in oil well drilling fluids. Industry outcome: The Egyptian Petroleum Research Institute made applied research and field experiments in the area of the treatment of the Egyptian bentonite.This to be used in oil well drilling fluids, which have honorable results, through the activation process- using a polymer and economic quantities. The work of field experiments has already been produced and sold releasing Egyptian bentonite on the local market. EPRI Annual Report 2012 43
