STREET ROD LICENSE PLATES<br />

DEFINITION<br />

This law provides for the issuance of Street Rod license plates. These plates are issued to a vehicle and<br />

not to an individual; therefore, the plates cannot be transferred from one vehicle to another.<br />

ELIGIBILITY<br />

Any modified antique private passenger automobile or private minimum use truck/van manufactured in<br />

1948 or earlier which has undergone some type of modernizing, to include modernizing of engine,<br />

transmission, drivetrain, interior refinements, and any other modifications the builder desires and which is<br />

to be driven to events under its own power and to be used as a safe, nonracing vehicle is eligible for this<br />

type of plate.<br />

REQUIREMENTS<br />

FEES<br />

• An application for initial issuance or transfer of a Street Rod license plate is required and must be<br />

accompanied by a photograph of the vehicle.<br />

• A photocopy of a current membership card in a Street Rod organization or a notarized affidavit<br />

attesting that the vehicle is roadworthy and qualifies as a Street Rod as defined above must also be<br />

submitted.<br />

• If the vehicle is not registered in the applicant's name, proper title documentation and fees must<br />

be submitted along with the request for the Street Rod license plate.<br />

• Street Rod license plates issued prior to September 1, 1996, shall remain lifetime plates.<br />

• The $25.00 fee for initial issuance is required, in addition to regular registration fees.<br />

• The renewal fee for the Street Rod license plate is regular registration fee only.<br />

• The $8.00 handling fee is due on all transactions except renewals.<br />

• The $3.00 fee is required to transfer a Street Rod License plate.<br />

• This class of plate is issued to a vehicle and not to an individual; therefore the plate cannot be<br />

transferred from one vehicle to another.<br />

Renewals, duplicate titles, title corrections, and replacement stickers may be processed at any field office<br />

or public tag agent. All other requests, including transfers and conversions, are to be mailed to the<br />

Special/Dealer License Plate Unit, Headquarters, P.O. Box 64886, Baton Rouge, LA 70896.
