FEES: DOMESTIC STUDENTS<br />

If you are an Australian citizen or permanent resident,<br />

or a New Zealand citizen, you will be considered a<br />

domestic student and eligible for a Commonwealthsupported<br />

place at university. This means the<br />

Australian government will make a contribution<br />

towards your fees. As a Commonwealth-supported<br />

student, you will be required to make a contribution<br />

towards the cost <strong>of</strong> your education. In 2013, the<br />

student contribution for the <strong>Sydney</strong> Medical Program<br />

is $9,792 per annum. <strong>The</strong> contribution rises each year<br />

by approximately 5 percent. For information, see:<br />

FEES: INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS<br />

If you are not an Australian citizen or permanent<br />

resident, or a New Zealand citizen, you will be<br />

considered an international student and only accepted<br />

into the <strong>University</strong> on a full-fee paying basis. In<br />

2013, the fee is $62,880 per year plus four years<br />

<strong>of</strong> mandatory Overseas Student Health Cover. <strong>The</strong><br />

<strong>University</strong>’s tuition fees are reviewed annually and may<br />

vary during your period <strong>of</strong> study.<br />

INTERNSHIPS<br />

<strong>Sydney</strong> Medical Program graduates are eligible for<br />

registration by medical boards in all Australian states<br />

and territories and in New Zealand, on satisfactory<br />

completion <strong>of</strong> an internship with an approved hospital.<br />

In Australia, internships are managed by state health<br />

REQUIREMENTS<br />

<strong>The</strong>se requirements apply for all medical students and<br />

include a criminal record check, prohibited employment<br />

declaration and evidence <strong>of</strong> current vaccinations. For<br />

UNIVERSITY POLICIES<br />

<strong>The</strong> dean <strong>of</strong> the faculty is responsible for the<br />

admission <strong>of</strong> candidates to courses within the faculty,<br />

subject to the policies <strong>of</strong> the Senate and the Academic<br />

Board and the authority <strong>of</strong> the Vice Chancellor (clause<br />

37.2 <strong>of</strong> <strong>The</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Sydney</strong> (Amendment Act)<br />

Rule 1999). <strong>The</strong> dean, in exercising responsibility in<br />

making any decision, will abide by <strong>University</strong> policies in<br />

relation to admission to <strong>Sydney</strong> Medical School award<br />

courses, including those that specify that applications<br />

for admissions are considered according to the criteria<br />

detailed in the course resolutions and handbook.<br />
