DEGREES<br />

BACHELOR OF COMMERCE/MBBS<br />

<strong>The</strong> Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Commerce and Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Medicine and<br />

Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Surgery is a combined degree program sequenced<br />

so that successful students proceed first through the<br />

Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Commerce degree during which they will be<br />

required to complete science units <strong>of</strong> study and then on to<br />

the degrees <strong>of</strong> Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Medicine and Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Surgery.<br />

BACHELOR OF ECONOMICS/MBBS<br />

<strong>The</strong> Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Economics and Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Medicine and<br />

Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Surgery is a unique program which will provide<br />

you with the opportunity to pursue studies in areas that are <strong>of</strong><br />

particular relevance to the management and conduct <strong>of</strong> business,<br />

in addition to gaining a pr<strong>of</strong>essional qualification in medicine.<br />

<strong>The</strong> skills you will acquire through the Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Economics will<br />

benefit a number <strong>of</strong> careers in the medical pr<strong>of</strong>ession. For example,<br />

doctors in private practice need to understand the fundamentals<br />

<strong>of</strong> business in order to establish and maintain a thriving practice.<br />

BACHELOR OF MEDICAL SCIENCE/MBBS<br />

<strong>The</strong> combined Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Medical Science and Bachelor <strong>of</strong><br />

Medicine and Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Surgery leads to registration as a<br />

general medical practitioner. <strong>The</strong> course combines the threeyear<br />

undergraduate Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Medical Science course<br />

with the <strong>University</strong>’s prestigious four-year graduate medical<br />

program. <strong>The</strong> combination <strong>of</strong> science and medicine subjects<br />

<strong>of</strong>fers you the opportunity to develop a strong background in<br />

the sciences, with some flexibility for you to study units from<br />

other faculties.<br />

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR <strong>2014</strong> admission<br />

ENTRY FROM SCHOOL IN<strong>TO</strong> COMBINED<br />

MEDICAL DEGREES<br />

Students are eligible to apply for the Combined Medicine<br />

Degree Programs at the first opportunity after graduating<br />

high school, regardless <strong>of</strong> when their results are available.<br />

Special admission pathways are open to Aboriginal and Torres<br />

Strait Islander applicants. <strong>The</strong> required ATAR is expected to be<br />

95 or higher for <strong>2014</strong> entry.<br />

In your first three years undertaking the Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Medical<br />

Science, you will study the basic sciences as well as clinical<br />

sciences. <strong>The</strong> medical curriculum <strong>of</strong> the MBBS component<br />

<strong>of</strong> this degree emphasises practical delivery with much <strong>of</strong><br />

the program using problem-based learning with contextually<br />

relevant medical issues as the foundation <strong>of</strong> the course.<br />

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE (ADVANCED)/MBBS<br />

<strong>The</strong> combined Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Science (Advanced) and Bachelor <strong>of</strong><br />

Medicine and Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Surgery leads to registration as a general<br />

medical practitioner. It combines the three-year undergraduate<br />

Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Science (Advanced) course with the <strong>University</strong>’s<br />

prestigious four-year graduate medical program.<br />

<strong>The</strong> combination <strong>of</strong> science and medicine subjects <strong>of</strong>fers you<br />

the opportunity to develop a strong background in the sciences,<br />

with some flexibility for you to study units from other faculties.<br />

BACHELOR OF MUSIC STUDIES/MBBS<br />

<strong>The</strong> Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Music Studies functions as a liberal studies<br />

pathway into the MBBS. You will select a principal study at<br />

the <strong>Sydney</strong> Conservatorium <strong>of</strong> Music from the program in<br />

music studies. You will also complete core music units <strong>of</strong> study<br />

in music skills, music history and analysis, and performance.<br />

<strong>The</strong> degree is completed over six semesters with a credit<br />

average or above prior to your commencement in the<br />

Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Medicine and Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Surgery. During this<br />

time, you will also complete one preparatory unit <strong>of</strong> study<br />

in medicine and three units <strong>of</strong> study in biology, physics and<br />

chemistry from the program <strong>of</strong>fered by the Faculty <strong>of</strong> Science.<br />

<strong>The</strong>reafter, you will study for the degree <strong>of</strong> Bachelor <strong>of</strong><br />

Medicine and Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Surgery over four years.<br />

DOMESTIC & INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS<br />

APPLICANTS MUST HAVE:<br />

A very high ATAR. For students commencing in <strong>2014</strong>,<br />

the ATAR is expected to be 99.95 for all courses except<br />

Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Music Studies/MBBS, which is expected to be<br />

99.50. Students from outside NSW are converted to ATAR<br />

equivalent scores. International students require an ATAR <strong>of</strong><br />

99.50 or international equivalent.<br />

Music/MBBS applicants must also undertake an audition.
