4.2 Laboratory and Field activities 

• Cattle manure and slurry treatment by separation and acidification: process 

optimization and characterization of the fractions obtained. 

• Quantification of the gaseous emissions (CO 2 , CH 4 , N 2 O e NH 3 ) from treated and 

untreated animal slurry and slurry fractions obtained after mechanical and 

chemically enhanced separation during storage. 


• Nitrogen, phosphorous and carbon turnover and gaseous emissions after 

application to soil of treated and untreated organic residues (animal manure, olive 

mill waste, sludges). 

• Effect of the incorporation of nitrification inhibitors (DCD and DMPP) with cattle 

slurry on the annual ryegrass yield and soil mineral N dynamics after application 

to soil. 

• Reuse of treated wastewater for agricultural purposes: influence on nutrient and 

carbon turnover in soil.
