Have Power
No child of God need be a spiritual weakling. Your Bible reveals that an
unlimited source of power is available to all who wish to make use of it.
The gospel of Christ, Paul states, is “the power of God unto salvation to
every one that believeth” (Romans l:l6). By bringing a man in touch with God,
it opens to him all the resources of Omnipotence.
How does this power come to us Through the Holy Spirit. Says Jesus: “If
you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how
much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them who ask
him” (Luke 11:13, RSV).
When explaining to Nicodemus the necessity for a spiritual rebirth, Jesus
told as simply as He could how this flow of divine power proceeds.
“The wind blows where it wills,” He said, “and you hear the sound of it, but
you do not know whence it comes or whither it goes; so it is with every one
who is born of the Spirit” (John 3:8, RSV).
Perhaps at that very moment, in the darkness of the night, the wind was
blowing hard over the mountains round about Jerusalem, rushing down the
narrow streets of the city, waving the branches of trees, tugging at the garments
of passersby. It could be heard rattling the shutters and banging the
doors of nearby houses. They could not see the wind, but they could feel it
and hear the effects of it as it swept by.
“So,” said Jesus, “it is with every one who is born of the Spirit.”
The moment a man opens the door of his heart to God the divine Wind
blows in, blowing the dust and dirt of sin from every nook and corner and
filling his life with every spiritual blessing.
Jesus called this powerful, invisible force the “Comforter” or the “Counselor,”
and told His disciples to pray for it.
