Seven former Green Terror athletes and coaches were<br />
inducted into the Western Maryland College Sports<br />
Hall of Fame at ceremonies conducted Oct. 12 on<br />
campus.<br />
Included in the group arc: Paul Bates, class of '31 .<br />
captain and wide receiver on the undefeated 1930<br />
varsity football team; Julia Bcrwager, class of '39.<br />
who was a versatile college athlete with a 32-year<br />
career in physical education; and former soccer player<br />
and coach Denny Harmon who also participated in<br />
basketball and baseball.<br />
Also included are: Harry Lawrence, class of '31:<br />
Tony Ortenzi, class of '38; Stg Jensen, class of '47:<br />
and Anne Clemmitt, class of '59.<br />
Charter members of the Western Maryland College<br />
Sports Hall of Fame, inducted in 1978. are: Dick<br />
Harlow, Carlo Ortenzi. Robert Gill, Rip Engle. Charlie<br />
Havens, George Ekaitus. Harold Kopp. Al Sadusky,<br />
William Shepherd, Sheriff Fowble, and Molly<br />
Twigg.<br />
Jack Dawson, associate news director for WMAR-<br />
TV, was the guest speaker for the induction ceremony.<br />
The Western Maryland College Sports Hall of<br />
Fame is sponsored by the college's Alumni Association.<br />
It is designed to recognize former athletes who<br />
have acquired prominence in their fields and who<br />
have contributed to society, and to honor friends of<br />
the college who have contributed significantly to the<br />
athletic<br />
program<br />
The third annual WMC Sports Hall of Fame induction<br />
ceremony will be held on OcL 3,1980. Nominations<br />
may be made by completing and returning the<br />
ballot which was mailed \0 alumni by the Alumni<br />
Office in February. All nominations must be received<br />
by the college on or before May I, 1980<br />
Bonaccorsy Takes Honors<br />
Ricci Bonaccorsy, senior defensive end and cocaptain<br />
for the Western Maryland College footbull<br />
.tearn, compiled an impressive Jist post-season honors<br />
nf<br />
for his accomplishments during the Green Terror's<br />
7-2 campaign in 1979.<br />
He was named by the National Collegiate Athletic<br />
Association to its first team division 111all-America<br />
squad. Bonaccorsy also earned his second straight nod<br />
to a first team spot on the Eastman Kodak small<br />
college all-America (earn that includes players from<br />
the NCAA division 111and NAIA divisions I and 11.<br />
Ricci was an honorable mention choice for the<br />
Associated Press Little all-America that included<br />
players from the NCAA divisions l-AA, II. and III<br />
and NAIA divisions I and II. He was an alternate lor<br />
the 1980 Senior Bowl in Mobile. Ala.<br />
In addition to his national honors Bonaccorsy received<br />
first team all-Maryland and all-Middle Atlantic<br />
Conference notoriety. The Green Terrors named him<br />
as the team's most valuable defensive lineman of<br />
1979 at their post-season banquet.<br />
He is still under consideration for further recognition<br />
by the Baltimore chapter of the National Football<br />
Hall of Fame.<br />
His statistical story; 92 tackles, 54 assists, and 15<br />
quarterback sacks in the final year of a distinguished<br />
athletic career at Western Maryland<br />

Award Named<br />
for Nawrocki<br />
The John D. Nawrocki Memorial Fund has<br />
been established at WMC through the<br />
contributions of classmates and friends. John,<br />
'77, a member of Gamma Beta Chi as well as<br />
the college soccer and lacrosse teams, died in<br />
an automobile accident in California where he<br />
was stationed with the U.S. Anny<br />
Last fall lames F. Mosberg, '78, in<br />
cooperation with the Development Office of<br />
the college, contacted many of John's college<br />
class and teammates. Each was invited to<br />
participate in the establishment of a fund in<br />
John's memory.<br />
"Responses to the invitation have been<br />
excellent," said Jerry Clark, associate director<br />
of development.<br />
Senior center Becky Martin became the first<br />
woma.n in Western Maryland College basketball<br />
history to reach the 1000 point milestone<br />
for career scoring on Jan. 22. She eclipsed the<br />
mark during a 34-point effort against Mr. Vernon<br />
College in Gill Gym<br />
Martin received a commemorative plaque<br />
and the ball she used to reach the plateau from<br />
head coach Carol Fritz and her Green Terrors<br />
teammates. WMC celebrated by winning the<br />
game 114-10<br />

played during the '63 football season. Actually<br />
Mr. Yobst's last season as n Terror defenseman<br />
