Electrostatic Charging Systems
SPECIFICATION SHEET
ION Impact TM MODEL 7306
Electrostatic charging using ionization is often the most elegant and
efficient way of accomplishing many physical tasks in handling paper and
plastic films, webs and sheets. The users who design charging into their
process seldom go back to mechanical means of accomplishing the same
task.
A charging generator and charge applicator make up an electrostatic
charging system. A single charging system or a combination of two
charging systems are used for “pinning” or “tacking” together sheets
and webs of film or paper. Typical applications include manufacturing
of binders, chill roll edge pinning on cast film lines, lamination, in-mold
labeling (IML), plastic bag manufacturing, roll transfer, shrink wrapping
and others.
In the press room and in the bindery, charging applications are a part of
several processes, such as ribbon tacking, chill roll tacking, inserting cards
into magazines and catalogs in saddle stitchers and perfect bound lines,
and catalog stacking.
The ION Impact 7306 Charging Generator is a 30 kV, 5 mA solid-state
microprocessor-based, quick set-up high voltage DC power supply for
use with specified charge applicators. The 7306 Charging Generator is
available in three versions:
• With negative output voltage
• With a positive output voltage
• With outputs of both positive and negative polarities
Using the multifunctional display and controls, the 7306 generator is easily
set up to operate in the CONSTANT CURRENT mode, with timed charging
action, output level alarms and remote output control features. In the
CONSTANT CURRENT mode, the system maintains stable and strong
pinning power even as the ambient conditions change or the ionizing
electrodes get contaminated with time or the material’s properties vary.
The 7306 generator can also operate in the Constant Voltage mode
in applications where the load impedance changes and the charging
system must provide the required stability.
The 7306 can be fully integrated into a process for:
• Remote activation of the high voltage output
• Remote output voltage or charging current adjustment via a choice of
10K pot, 4-20 mA or 0-10V-signal follower
• Remote output voltage and charging current analog output signals
• RS-485 communications
A large, easy-to-read LED readout in the front panel of the generator
displays both charging current and operating voltage, making it simple to
adjust, monitor and control the static charging process.
The 7306 generator is mounted using four holes located on two mounting
flanges. The 7306 charging generator uses convenient twist-and-lock
quick-disconnect high-voltage connectors for charge applicators, such
as Ion model 7430 Charging Bar.
The true value of the dual-polarity version of the 7306 is realized
when a charging application requires two charge applicators, one
positive and the other negative. Common dual polarity applications
include electrostatic ribbon tacking on heatset printing presses, in-line
finishing, and electrostatic magazine tacking on incline stackers where
finished magazines pass between two 7430 Matrix Chargers and get
electrostatically compressed for packaging in neat and strong bundles.
