social program Opening Ceremony and Welcome Reception Sunday, 14 November 2010 18.30 h Auditorium I at the Palacio de Ferias y Congresos ‘Meet Your Colleagues’ Evening Monday, 15 November 2010 The Malagueta Bullring, Paseo de Reding 20.00 h The congress will be officially opened by the ESSM President and the Local Organising Committee. Typical Andalucía Flamenco will be presented by the Eva Yerbabuena Ballet Flamenco. Afterwards all delegates are invited to the Welcome Reception in the foyer of the Palacio de Ferias y Congresos where local wine and typical Spanish food will be offered. The European Society of Sexual Medicine invites all delegates to join the “meet with your Colleagues Evening”. During this evening all congress delegates can take the opportunity to further discuss the latest research and developmental findings in sexual medicine outside the congress sessions. The event will take place at the famous Malagueta bullring in the heart of Malaga where typical Spanish food, such as Tapas and local wines will be offered. Built in 1874 by Joaquín Rucoba in Neo-Mudejar style, the bullring is located in Paseo de Reding, in the district of La Malagueta. It was inaugurated on 11 th June 1876 and still today operates as a Bull fighting venue. Cost contribution: EUR 30 per person ESSM Members: complimentary For all ESSM members this special cultural event is complimentary. You will receive your ticket in exchange for a voucher included in your congress documents at the ESSM booth in the exhibition area. Pre-registration is necessary on Monday, 15 November 2010 until 15.00 h at the ESSM booth. Best dances of Eva Yerbabuena Eva Yerbabuena is considered to be one of the most famous Flamenco dancers of our time. She founded Eva Yerbabuena Ballet Flamenco, an independent dance company in 1988. Since then, the Company has produced five more shows and toured the world. The Company’s philosophy is to present the highest quality of flamenco dance. In this special show Eva Yerbabuena Company presents a summing up of their best dances: Eva (1998), 5 Women 5 (2000), the Voice of Silence (2002), Four Voices (2004), the Spindle of the Memory (2006) and Wonders and Signs (2007). Many prestigious awards have honored her work, including Premio Nacional de Danza in 2001 (National Dance Award in Spain). In 2007, she received the Medal of Andalusia, as recognition to its successful professional trajectory. Eva Yerbabuena has collaborated with Joaquín Cortés and Pina Bausch. 16
supporting program Welcome to Malaga, Bienvenidos A Malaga ! Malaga is the capital of the Costa del Sol which belongs to the southern region of Andalucia which is famous for its beautiful nature, typical white villages, vibrant cities, costal fishing villages, flamenco, bullfighting, fantastic outdoor activities and mild winters. Malaga is surrounded by cities like Cadiz, Marbella, Seville or Granada which all of them have a rich history, remarkable architecture and culture. The combination of great weather, some of the best golf courses in Europe, interesting cities with plenty of Spanish culture and history have made the Costa del Sol and Malaga an attractive destination during winter time. Culture Malaga has applied for the title of “European Culture Capital” for the year 2016. This means that the city is being improving its cultural offers in every respect. Over twenty museums, most of them in walking distance in the historical center make Malaga the City of Museums. The city presents excellent museums ranging from historic to modern art which host some of the most interesting exhibitions as well as new projects like the Wine Museum or the Holy Week Museum. The main attractions are the Alcazaba and the Castillo de Gibralfaro, from where you have a fantastic view of the town and bay. Beside the entrance of the Alcabaza (Arabic fortress), which was a Moorish fornication of the 8 th century, there are ruins of a Roman theatre of the 2 nd century. Gibralfaro Castle was built in the 14 th century and is one of the most famous historic sites of the Costa del Sol. The famous painter and sculptor Pablo Picasso was born here (25 October 1881 – 8 April 1973). As one of the most recognized artists of the 20th century he gained unique fame through his revolutionary artistic forms of expression including paintings from classical to abstract, drawings, ceramics and sculptures. His works had great influence on the modern art. His paintings from the blue and pink period marked the beginning of the cubism. His birth house is a five storeyed house which has now become the headquarters of the “The Fundacion Picasso“. The Museum contains 3500 pieces which include ceramic and graphic works of Picasso. Monday, 15 November 2010 Malaga City Sightseeing Walking Tour 09.30 – 12.30 h This route accompanied by an English speaking guide offers the visitor a tour through Malaga history, from the Roman period till the present time. Some of its main monuments and museums are located nearby, so the visitor can witness the city’s development. Discover almost three thousand years of city’s history. Visit to the Alcazaba This impressive building, built mostly in the 11th century, was the palace-fortress of the city’s governing Muslims. It was built on the summit of a hill, adapted to the relief. This latter, within which the palace stands, is also adapted to the lines of the hill and has strong defensive elements at each end. It has a lift that runs from Calle Guillén Sotelo, behind the Town Hall. Visit to the Cathedral The Cathedral was built on the site where the city’s main mosque had stood during the eight centuries of Muslim domination. The building of the cathedral began in the first half of the 16th century (1528) and continued throughout the 17th and 18th century. Yet, it is still unfinished as it is missing the top part of the main façade and the south tower is incomplete.
