AIST’s Certificate of Foundations in Trustee Governance
continues to receive excellent feedback. This course
provides a comprehensive overview for trustee directors,
and contributes to meeting their fit & proper requirements.
For participants who are interested in furthering their
qualifications, AIST’s course is recognised by Victoria
University as an elective unit of their MBA program, and
forms part of the university’s Graduate Certificate in
Superannuation Management.

Having delivered more than 300 public and in-house
training courses in 2010, AIST has firmly established
itself in the superannuation industry as the preferred
provider of quality education for both trustee directors
and fund staff.
AIST training is for all superannuation professionals and
in 2010 a wide cross section of industry participants
attended the highly regarded training sessions. Feedback
indicated that AIST’s training courses comprehensively
met the needs of participants.
TRUSTEE DIRECTOR EDUCATION
AIST’s Trustee Toolkit, Trustee Twilight and Hot Topic
training series have continued to be well received by
trustee directors and other superannuation professionals.
Topics covered in 2010 included: transition to retirement
and ageing workforce considerations for employers;
government review updates; the popular trustee refresher;
superannuation fraud; group and trustee indemnity
insurance; complex death benefits and the SCT; and
investment fee research.
In 2010 AIST launched the new Board Insights series in
response to increasing demand for tailored board training.
The Board Insights series consists of one-hour training
sessions on a range of topical issues, which are designed
to be delivered in-house at board meetings. These
sessions have been highly successful and sought after,
as boards can choose a relevant topic and a convenient
time to meets their needs. This service has received
excellent feedback from the funds who have participated.
COMPLIANCE AND SUPERANNUATION
TRAINING
Increased demand by clients for in-house training
sessions saw AIST boost its RG146 training by 50 per
cent. Demand for RG146 Refresher training has also
increased. Participants completing AIST’s RG146 course
are halfway to a Diploma of Financial Services (Financial
Planning) or to AIST’s Diploma of Financial Services
(Superannuation).
AIST continues to assist many funds nationally with
their ongoing licensing obligations through our wellestablished
AFSL and RSE Compliance and Professional
Development Program.
The AFSL program includes induction training and
testing so that representatives understand their regulatory
obligations; an annual verbal skills assessment to
identify any training needs that may exist; and quarterly
half-day training sessions. There is now a choice of
attending either the Professional Development sessions,
designed for representatives who provide general advice,
or the Quarterly Adviser workshops, a new initiative in
2010 designed for staff who provide personal advice.
AIST has received extremely positive feedback on this
new initiative. A panel of industry participants provides
AIST with direction on suitable topics.
