John Carlile, Deputy Chair at LUCRF Super successfully
applied to undertake a four-day course presented
by EUROMONEY (and facilitated in Paris) on ‘Modern
Corporate Governance’. Sam Hallab, Deputy CEO at
Australian Catholic Super & Retirement Fund (ACSRF)
successfully applied for a four-day course (conducted
by Harvard Business School in the US) on ‘Performance
Measurement for Effective Management of Non-Profit
Organisations’.
Further to the two awards sponsored by Tyndall/Suncorp
Investment Management, AIST provided an award for our
associate member category. This was presented to Rabia
Akbar, a customer service consultant with Superpartners,
to undertake AIST’s RG146 course.

MEMBERSHIP
As expected, the process of fund consolidation continued
in 2010. Whilst this could be seen to be detrimental to
the strength of AIST’s membership, our member funds
are taking the option of enrolling all of their directors and
staff into membership as a sign of their support of the
not-for-profit superannuation industry.
In 2010, AIST’s membership grew overall by 22 per cent.
AIST’s associate membership grew by 200 per cent and
our fully engaged, 31+ memberships grew by 67 per
cent. The largest increase in membership was through
our fund staff membership.
A total of five mergers were completed and a further
seven announced with completion pending.
AIST EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS
Tyndall/Suncorp Investment Management partnered with
AIST for the fourth consecutive year in 2010 providing
$20,000 towards educational scholarships. Tyndall’s
continued partnership enables two AIST members to
undertake training relating to and assisting with the
growth of funds, thereby strengthening knowledge in
the not-for-profit sector.
The future leaders of the not-for-profit sector shone again
at AIST’s third annual ‘Awards for Excellence’ evening.
AIST recognised the industry’s top performers in several
