Page 8 PAST EVENTS European Conference 2009 in Budapest - JCI Luxembourg training in Budapest JCI conferences are not only an occasion to visit amazing cities, meet and share experiences with hundreds of other Jaycees from all over the world but also offers the participants the opportunity of attending several interesting and useful trainings in a very short period of time. “Personally, I registered for 3 trainings at the European Conference in Budapest, Trainer, Achieve and Admin,” says Pedro Castilho, EVP Luxembourg 2009. “In the end I just attended Trainer and Achieve as Admin will be held in Luxembourg in August this year, but it has been a great experience to attend these trainings with fellow members from all over the Europe. Especially team exercises are really funny and challenging as everybody has to make efforts to compromise with different personalities but also diverse cultures.” The content of the mentioned trainings is set up to fulfil different needs. For example Trainer gives the participants an insight into how to prepare trainings for an adult audience considering the expectations of people attending and the standard learning cycle. Also, it is a compulsory part of the required courses to become a certified local or national trainer. Achieve helps Jaycees to market their organisation by setting up what they really want to reach, who they want to target and why it is important to pay attention to the perception of the addressed individuals. Admin is essential for all those interested on how to manage a JCI local organisation. “JCI trainings have a special atmosphere you barely can find elsewhere,” adds Pedro, “the aim is to get the best out of yourself in a positive and constructive way. Page 9 PAST EVENTS CYEL 2009 Ceremony at the Philharmonie - Looking behind the scenes As most of you have already read in the newspapers or seen on television the winner of the Creative Young Entrepreneur Luxembourg 2009 has been chosen and announced. 10 months of preparations - one highlight - what now Ten months of hard work, ten months of cooperation through common understanding has given the results - the project has been completeda winner has been found. On the 29th of June we were able to gather 300 people together even though it was on a Monday evening, the first day of the week. Most probably you ask yourself, how this was possible - an especially how it was possible to organize such an outstanding event in these difficult times…. First of all, it was due to our dear candidates and dear finalists. This is now the right moment to thank them for their hard work and time spent on the preparation of the applications and on the presentations. Deeply and warmly I want to especially congratulate our winner Sylvain Zimmer and the two other finalists, Stéphane Ledermann and Jérôme Bloch, not to forget our ‘coup de Cœur’, Anatoli Papadopoulou. Without them our contest and ceremony would never have been finalized in such a beautiful and successful way. We all thank you for your participation in our contest this year! Furthermore, our contest received an enormous support from the Government of Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, from our sponsors, partners and from a lot of anonymous supporters, who nor are to forget. Thank you for this perfect cooperation, big help, support and understanding! Nevertheless, apart from the great external support we received, in this article I want to explain what went on behind the scenes. CYEL 2009 was organized by the CYEL Team - in my opinion, an amazing team. Let me explain this unique ‘machine’, that did everything possible in order to accomplish the project till its end—its goal. Last year I was invited to the Gala of CYEL 2008. I was extremely impressed by the work and efforts. This year I had the chance and privilege to be a team member during the last 10 months. It has been an amazing time of my life - a crazy one - full of speed and cheerful situations. For me, as a new member of JCI, this will surely be kept as a memory for the rest of my life. As mentioned before, our team was unique due to amazing team members; people coming from different countries and cultures. People with different backgrounds and professions, why it was a team with various points of view - but this only made us richer. Throughout the preparations I got a very important insight in the JCI World. I got to understand the passion behind the projects—the drive to build and create value within a day-to-day existing environment. This power and will is surely a main characteristic of a JCI member. In addition, surely elements like team spirit and the idea of development through cooperation were also understood and applied by the CYEL Team. Honestly, I experienced an unique and mutual cooperation, working together through both pleasurable and critical times…. A challenge we managed to overcome together! Therefore, this is less a factual report on CYEL, but a thank you to my team - and to JCI in general. I am very happy for all the perfect and unforgettable moments that we have spent together, and I hope that very soon the chance will come to work together again.
