WOMIN'S
F'rom Another P oillle
of Vie'f
By Janet Mueller
I don't know about you, but I'm blithering.
Rather: As I write this column, (last Monday), I am
blithering; by the time you read it, (Thursday morning),
I'll be under the Law of December 24, and calm again.
This Law of December 24, a Great Thing, stafes: "If
you haven't got it-the perfect present for, (named to be
filled in by individual Law invokers)-by now, you. won't
get it."
A wonderful Law. Comforting, Hopeful. Nirvana ...
But it doesn't operate UNTIL December 24, and
right now, as I'm writing this column, it's December 21,
and as soon as I'm finished with this column-I'll drag it
out as long as I can, but eventually it's GOT to be finished
-I'll be off again, into the cold, the snow, searching for,
(among other things), cheap ladybugs and ANYTHING
with a camel on it ...
Maternal Reveille
Alike Kramer comes home from the service, home on
Christmas leave, and he's all grown up, and all tired oul,
and everybody's glad to see him, and it's grand old family
rcunion time in Grosse Pointe boulevard, and before Mike
goes-late-to bed, he tells his mother, "Be sure to wake
me up at 9 tomorrow morning."
And promptly at 9 Mrs. Kramer comes knocking
gently at Mike's door.
Tap. "Mike? ••• " Tap, tap. "IUike?"
Nothing.
Now before MUte went away, his mother would have
pounded, threatened, demanded •••
But this is Mlke-home.on.leave: You don't rout your
soldier son from bed the day after he's been let out for
the holidays.
Still: He Dm say he wanted to be up at 9. He probllbly
has thin~s he has to do •..
