Pic 124. Neville lies motionless on the floor. Aghast Charlie kneels beside him, angrily looking up at Kessler. The Nazi sneers as he points the smoking luger at Charlie once more. PANEL ABOVE: KESSLER WAS FURIOUS THAT EVERYTHING HAD GONE SO BADLY WRONG. HE FACE TWISTED IN A SNEER AS HE POINTED HIS SMOKING PISTOL AT CHARLIE ONCE AGAIN. CHARLIE: HE’S DEAD! KESSLER: DON’T WORRY. YOU’LL SOON BE JOINING HIM! PANEL BELOW: A SINGLE SHOT RANG OUT, ECHOING AROUND THE SILENT ROOM. Pic 125. Charlie watches as Kessler lurches forward, dropping his pistol. Behind him, we see that Jacques has returned. He has just shot Kessler. PANEL ABOVE: BUT IT WAS KESSLER WHO FELL TO THE FLOOR, DEAD. JACQUES HAD RETURNED IN THE NICK OF TIME. KESSLER: ARGH! THE RESISTANCE LEADER’S FACE WAS HARD, BUT HE WAS SATISFIED THAT JUSTICE HAD BEEN DONE. JACQUES: AT LAST, MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS HAVE BEEN AVENGED. CHARLIE: THAT’S TWICE YOU’VE SAVED MY LIFE TODAY.
