Should I check my meter reading myself?
Please check your meter reading
at least monthly, particularly if
your meter is located outside
your property.
Checking your meter readings
regularly will alert you early if
there is a leak on your
underground pipework – the
reading will suddenly increase.
Keeping an eye on how much
water you are using will also
help you budget for paying
your bill.
What will happen if I have a leak?
The underground service pipe
bringing water into your property
is your responsibility (or that of
your landlord if you are a tenant),
usually between the boundary
of the street in which our water
main is laid and your property.
You are responsible for the pipe’s
maintenance and repair.
If your meter is located outside
your property, a leak on the
underground service pipe could
mean that you receive a large bill.
A monthly meter check will help
you to spot a leak early – and
speedy action by you to deal with
it will help to ensure that you can
get help with your bill.
