Bridging the gaps
OpenArena5 is a project run by the five
universities of southern Sweden within the
Innovation Office South (IKS), with financial
support from the European Regional
Development Fund.
Through user-driven, open and interdisciplinary
cooperation, the project will give rise
to new tools, methods and approaches to
bridge the existing gap between research
results, university competence and business
and societal needs.
Focusing on the development of new open
innovation processes, it aims to improve the
conditions that will allow the increased utilization
of university knowledge in strengthening
the innovation capacities of Skåne
and Blekinge regions.
Focus areas
The project runs five pilots in the areas of
food, smart cities, personal health, IT and life
science, which will test these new methods
and tools as well as give valuable insight and
lessons learned regarding their preconditions,
challenges and success factors. Most
importantly, it will strengthen the interdisciplinary
collaboration between universities in
the region and give rise to new, innovative
products and services.
OpenArena5 runs from July 2011 to
December 2013 and has a total budget
of SEK 13 million.

comprehensive research university.
Ultrasound, Bluetooth and dialysis
