From the Office
The school year is off to an amazing start. The classrooms are
full of busy learning and curious minds. The phase-in process in the
Primary classrooms is completed and the new students have made
a beautiful transition into the environments. New friendships are
forming and mentoring is evident in all of the classrooms and levels.
The Directresses have been working very hard in preparing the
classrooms for their students and lessons plans are in place. The
Montessori Journey is coming up on September 26 th and 27 th ,
please sign up to attend if you have not yet experienced this
marvelous Montessori educational event.
We are all looking forward to a wonderful 2008-09 school year.

CMS PTC Mission
Guided by the dedication to enhance the educational experience of our
children, the Parent Teacher Committee (PTC) of Country Montessori
School is committed to supporting the staff and students through
community service and fundraising efforts to provide valuable items
that are not affordable by the (non-profit) school’s tuition alone. The
parents and staff work closely together to form a community that
shares its time and talent for the ultimate investment. . . the children.
Welcome CMS Families,
Someone from our family has consistently been with CMS since 1992. It was an
exciting transition for us when our son became a student in 2002. May I introduce
myself? I am Annemargaret. Generally, I am the parent most children know first. I am
honored to have the pleasure to be one of the subs at our school. This allows me the
privilege to work with your children.
My active involvement with CMS is going on seven years. Some still joke about “the
cot” I have in the back of the school. I am sure this story started during one of the
auctions. Yes, I do work outside of CMS and I do go home.
This year I am serving my 3rd year on the board and will also be the PTC president.
Many ask what the PTC actually does. We are responsible for finding that special
parent their opportunity to shine. Many of the projects your family benefits from are
due to the commitment of parents like you. Active in the PTC. It might be as simple
as doing traffic, organizing classroom parties, daily lunches, socials, guiding childrenʼs
projects, laundry, flowers, holiday celebrations in the room, carnivals or complex as
holding the annual auction. Our focus is community.
How are we able to do so many things? It is because of you. You make the
difference. First you made the decision to choose our wonderful environment. For
that, I thank you. Then, being the dedicated parent, you decided to become involved.
I thank you again.
Please remember, all parents are members of the PTC. I hope youʼll join us at PTC
meetings. We welcome you to our monthly meetings the 1st Tuesday of every month
@5pm in the Bumble Bees classroom. Childcare is included for parents attending the
meeting.
Participating in our events will give you the opportunity to become acquainted quickly.
You will be surprised on how fun it becomes.

Restaurant of the Month
Invite your friends and family to dine with CMS at
Souplantion in Rancho Bernardo on Tuesday, Sept.
16, 2008 between 5-8 p.m.
When you bring the flier, the restaurant is
offering 15% of your dinner purchase towards our
school. Show your pride and wear your CMS shirt!
Hours
We took the time to ask one of the students
what he thought about parents donating their time at
the school. He responded, “I feel how much the
parents love their children and care about the school
when they become involved by helping. It makes me
feel like we are all part of one big family.” - David.,
student since 2002.
This pretty much summarizes how excited our
CMS children are about their parents volunteering.
Each familyʼs commitment makes a tremendous
difference.
Please make sure you take the time to keep
track of your hours and log them within a week of
service in the Volunteer Hours Book in the office.
Once you get started with volunteering, the smiles
never stop. We are doing this for our children.
CMS Shirts
The CMS PTC is selling the school shirts. You
will be able to purchase your new size at the Ice
Cream Social on 9/20 at a cost of $10 per shirt.
The shirts are needed for field trips and other
outings.
Perhaps you might want to consider one of our
great CMS hats. These fine washed chino twill
unstructured caps fit everyone. They are available in
of exciting colors for only $15 each.
Remember to wear your school shirt on
Fridays to show your school sprit!

Montessori Journey
This special workshop enables
you to see our classrooms
through a childʼs eyes and to
experience how a child learns
from one level to the next.
This is a full immersion into our
Montessori Classrooms.
Parents as a simulated class of
children come for an evening of
silent learning and community,
followed by a morning of class
work and discussion with
teachers from each level. Youʼll
go from simple hands-on
material in a Primary classroom
to complex and abstract
concepts in Lower and Upper
Elementary.
Parents interested in attending
must register by Monday,
September 22, 2008.
The workshop is Friday, Sept.
26 at 6:30-8:00 p.m. and
Saturday, Sept. 27th,
8:30-11:00 am. Reserve your

Pennies for the Playground
The PTC is proud to announce the new
fundraising initiative called "Pennies For
Playground".
The money we will raise will be used towards
improving our playgrounds; and depending on
the success of the fundraiser, we would like to
start replacing the sandy playground areas
with grass.
So, if you have any loose change or bills to
spare, we will be collecting them in a Pennies
For Playground jar at drop off on Friday
mornings starting on September 19th.
We thank you for your generosity and look
forward to our playground resembling more the
grasslands of Serengeti rather than the sands
of Sahara!

The children get to help too. During
November, the children will be able to directly
participate in a Walk-a-thon on the school
grounds. This is the perfect opportunity for
your company to market through sponsorships.

Plaque Honors the Achievement

selected for the 2008 Best of Poway Award in
the Preschools category by the U.S. Local
Business Association (USLBA).
The USLBA "Best of Local Business" Award
Program recognizes outstanding local
businesses throughout the country. Each
year, the USLBA identifies companies that
they believe have achieved exceptional
marketing success in their local community
and business category. These are local
companies that enhance the positive image
of small business through service to their
customers and community.
Halloween Carnival
This year we are going to try something
new…each classroom will have an
opportunity to have their own booth at the
carnival. In addition, we will be inviting some
outside guests to participate in the booths.
These businesses must have proof of
insurance to participate. If you have any
ideas or would like to have your own booth

Lost & Found
Each week the school accumulates
several items. We need you to
label every item your child can
potentially lose. This includes
undergarments for preschoolers.
If you are concerned about
permanent ink, you can order
custom labels via the internet.

shopping with Scrip is a great and easy way to make that happen. CMS families and
friends participate by simply making regular household purchases. Groceries,

BOARD NOTES
What is the Board of Directors?
The Board of Directors is the
guardian of the schoolʼs mission. It is the
boardʼs responsibility to ensure that the
mission is relevant and vital to the
community it serves and to monitor the
success of the school in fulfilling its
mission. The board assures that the school
and board operate in compliance with
applicable laws and regulations. The board
accepts accountability for both the financial
stability and financial future of the
institution, engaging in strategic financial
planning, assuming primary preservation of
capital assets and endowments,
overseeing operating budgets, and
participating actively in fund raising.
Parents with expertise in various
areas are encouraged to join a Board
committee and/or to run for a board seat.
Board Directors are elected each
September by school parents, also known
as members, at the Annual Meeting and
Ice Cream Social. This informative and fun
event is an opportunity for families to
become informed about the status of the
school, while meeting existing and
potential board members. CMS families
elect the Board Members at the Annual
Meeting and Ice Cream Social. Currently
we are seeking candidates who are willing
to make a commitment to the school.

This is an adult only event. Childcare is
not available during this time.
Carmel Mtn. Street Fair
Come and visit Country Montessori School
at the Carmel Mountain Street Fair on Sunday,
Sept. 14, 2008.
Many of the CMS students and alumni are
part of the live entertainment presented on stage
through Cherylʼs baton group and other various
activities in the community.
It is going to be busy. Wear your CMS
shirt, so we can spot you. We look forward to
seeing you sometime between 10-4!
After School Activities
CMS has a variety of after school activities
available for your child to consider... baton,
Monart, paintshop, playball and more. Many of
these classes have already started. Please
remember to sign your child out at the end of
their session. CMS takes the care of your
children seriously. The school is still responsible
for your child, until you leave the facility.

Traffic Safety
Morning Arrivals are 8:15 a.m to
8:40 a.m. All elementary children
must be in the classroom by 8:30.
• Please remember to stay
in your car.
• Have your childʼs seat
location on the rear right
passenger side.
• Only make a right turn
when leaving the parking
lot.
• Any arrivals in the lot after
8:40 will need to go to the
office.
• STAY FOCUSED. One
parent has already hit
someone in the parking lot.
If you park, you will need to go to
the office to sign your child in for
the day.
This will speed up the process and
allow your child plenty of time to
transition into the classroom on a
daily basis.
