A Note From the Administrator
back to all students
and parents! The
entire staff and myself
are very excited to
begin another school
year at Country
Montessori. We hope that all of
you had a wonderful and relaxing
summer vacation.
The teachers and staff have
been busy preparing their environments
for this new 2009-10 school year and for
all of the students. We have some new
staff members that have joined CMS this
year and had to say goodbye to some of
our staff that have relocated to new
states. In the Sweetpea room, I would
like to welcome Yuko Munoz, who will be
the classroom assistant, and Heather
Zolzer who will be the Upper Elementary
part time assistant, as well as an
afternoon Primary Directress in the
Bumblebee classroom. Heather holds
an AMI Primary Teaching Credential.
We are sad to lose Kristie Fleischakker
and Stacie Elliot, but wish them well
in their new ventures in New Jersey
and Louisiana. Our Upper
Elementary classroom is now housed
in the same building as our Lower
elementary, so now we have our entire
elementary program all under the same
roof.
We are all looking forward to
another great school year and please
always remember that we have an open
door policy here at CMS and are always
happy to talk.

Target Summer Concerts
CMS is part of the Target Summer
Concert Series hosted by the City of
Poway. These free concert starts at 5
p.m. on Saturday. CMS will have a
booth off the side of the stage. This
popular series is a hit with families.
Everyone is invited to bring a picnic and
enjoy this delightful concert with their
favorite people. Join us for the final
concert. Show your spirit and wear your
CMS shirts! We will see you there.

CMS PTC Mission
Guided by the dedication to enhance the educational experience of
our children, the Parent Teacher Committee (PTC) of Country
Montessori School is committed to supporting the staff and students
through community service and fundraising efforts to provide
valuable items that are not affordable by the (non-profit) school’s
tuition alone. The parents and staff work closely together to form a
community that shares its time and talent for the ultimate
investment. . . the children.
Why does the PTC ask for assistance with fundraisers? Country Montessori
School is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization. Unlike public schools, it receives no
government funding. Tuition alone does not cover the cost of a CMS education,
much less allow for the continued growth of the school.
What is the PTC Supporting with Raised Funds? Monthly Sprucing,
Classroom Parties, Halloween Carnival, School/Staff Enrichment, Munch &
Mingle, Ice Cream Social, Childcare for Parent Education Events, Staff
Appreciation Luncheon and Annual DVD Yearbook and any unexpected expenses.

Parent Education
The Board of Directors is the
guardian of the school’s mission. It is
the board’s responsibility to ensure that
the mission is relevant and vital to the
community it serves and to monitor the
success of the school in fulfilling its
mission. The board assures that the
school and board operate in compliance
with applicable laws and regulations.
The board accepts accountability for
both the financial stability and financial
future of the institution, engaging in
strategic financial planning, assuming
primary preservation of capital assets
and endowments, overseeing operating
budgets, and participating actively in
fund raising.
Parents with expertise in various
areas are encouraged to join a Board
committee and/or to run for a board
seat. Board Directors are elected each
September by school parents, also
known as members, at the Annual
Meeting and Ice Cream Social. This
informative and fun event is an
opportunity for families to become
informed about the status of the school,
while meeting existing and potential
board members. CMS families elect the
Board Members at the Annual Meeting
and Ice Cream Social. Currently we
are seeking candidates who are willing
to make a commitment to the school.

Montessori Journey
This special workshop enables you
to see our classrooms through a
child’s eyes and to experience how
a child learns from one level to the
next.
This is a full immersion into our
Montessori Classrooms. Parents as
a simulated class of children come
for an evening of silent learning
and community, followed by a
morning of class work and
discussion with teachers from each
level. You’ll go from simple handson
material in a Primary classroom
to complex and abstract concepts in
Lower and Upper Elementary.
Parents interested in attending must
register by Monday, September 21,
2009.
The workshop is Friday, Sept. 25 at
6:30-8:00 p.m. and Saturday, Sept.
26th, 8:30-11:00 am.

Traffic Safety
Morning Arrivals are 8:15 a.m to 8:40
a.m. All elementary children must be
in the classroom by 8:30.
• Please remember to stay in
your car.
• Have your childʼs seat
location on the rear right
passenger side.
• Only make a right turn when
leaving the parking lot.
• Any arrivals in the lot after
8:40 will need to go to the
office.
• STAY FOCUSED.
If you park, you will need to go to the
office to sign your child in for the day.
This will speed up the process and
allow your child plenty of time to
transition into the classroom on a
daily basis.

Dear CMS Families,
First of all, on behalf of the CMS Board of Directors, I want to thank all of our returning families for your support of CMS
and its mission of providing a high quality authentic Montessori education for our children. To our new families, welcome to
CMS! We are excited to have you with us. The members of the board and I look forward to having the opportunity to meet
you at one of our upcoming school events. I sincerely hope that everyone had a fun, safe and enjoyable summer - whether
you traveled half-way around the world or had a “staycation” here in San Diego, I hope each of you had an opportunity to
spend quality time with your children, friends and family.
Looking ahead to the coming academic year at CMS, it is as important as ever for you as parents to get involved in the school,
whether it is volunteering in the classroom, on a parent committee such as PTC, or for school events such as the Halloween
Carnival. Whether you are a long-time CMS parent or new to the school, the CMS Board of Directors is also an excellent
forum to devote your time, energy and expertise to benefit the school, now and into the future. We will select new members of
the board at our upcoming CMS Annual Meeting/Ice Cream Social. At this time we will also review the school’s
accomplishments over the past year and discuss our goals for the coming year. If you are interested in volunteering for
the BOD, please submit your bio and {application} to Adela Corrales, School Administrator by Sept. 11th.
In the meantime, should you have any questions about serving on the BOD, please do not hesitate to contact me or one of the
