suffering from mechanical difficulties or in need of petrol.
This suspicious vehicle was reported to the police as well as other neighbourhood watch groups. Please
be alert to vehicles stopped in the area; 'breakdowns' are commonly used as an excuse for stopping so
as to avoid suspicion.
These guys obviously didn't get their story straight upfront - the driver claimed he didn't know the
pedestrians and the pedestrians claimed they were getting petrol for the vehicle."
Note from Atlas:
A similar Uno was spotted driving slowly in the Walmer area on Friday night. When the Atlas patrol
vehicle approached the Uno it sped off towards Summerstrand. Anyone who spots the car must notify
police of the suspicious car. The suspicious behaviour of the occupants in this vehicle warrants the
police to look into their activities.
12. Why is the beachfront so dark at night?
The latest Summerstrand Residents Association meeting held at Pearson High School on Tuesday had
concerned residents up in arms querying why sections of the beachfront is in darkness at night.
Councillor Dean Biddulph addressed the meeting and said that the electricity cabling from McArthur
Baths to Happy Valley had been stolen.
He said that due to portions of the cabling running under ground the metro had to find money in their
budget to uplift part of the walk way and replace the cable.
Residents raised concerns in the meeting that the prime beachfront stretch was now ultimately a
danger to both tourists and residents at night as fears of being robbed in the dark were more likely.
13. Bogus contractor operating in PE area.
Andrew warns: "I would like to share numerous problems I had with a local décor company, who I
contracted to paint my home. While this 'contractor' was at my house the following occurred:
One of the contractor's workers stole a laptop from my study. The man was caught and a criminal
charge was laid at the Walmer Police station - the laptop has still not being recovered.
The Contractor himself, with the help of his plumber colleague, undertook to replace my faulty
geyser and decided that he would sell the new geyser he bought for this purpose. He connected all hot
water to a second geyser that was discovered in the roof on investigation. The contractor was paid R
4000.00 for this. I only discovered this later. One of his workers also came forward and informed me
that the undercoat specified in the contract was not used and that an alternative cheaper product was
used instead. This cost me another R19000.00 just for the paint work. Criminal charges have been laid
against the contractor at Walmer Police station for theft.
The details of the contractor are attached on one of his "letterheads". Should this individual not go to
jail soon he may be approaching some of Atlas's clients to do work for them and I would warn them
against using him as he has shown his true colours. Please do not hesitate to contact me for any
further information on 082578 5987."
