As we close another <strong>Chorale</strong> season it is a little difficult to think of celebration, but celebrate we will. Think about it: our<br />

lives are full of celebrations. During the Christmas season, we celebrated with the major choral work, "A Day for Dancing"<br />

by Lloyd Pfautsch. Then, in March we were honored to celebrate our musical talents by performing "Mass in Time of<br />

War" by Joseph Hadyn with the <strong>Federal</strong> <strong>Way</strong> Symphony. As you may recall, a group of <strong>Chorale</strong> members had plans to<br />

perform this masterwork with other community choirs this Spring at Carnegie Hall, but September 11th changed our<br />

plans rapidly as other community choirs cancelled their trips to New York City; making it impossible for the hosts to<br />

continue supporting this festival. Though chosen over a year ago as the selection to be performed at Carnegie Hall, it<br />

became a most appropriate choice for us to do with the <strong>Federal</strong> <strong>Way</strong> Symphony earlier this year.<br />

Now, once more, our thoughts are on our country and our heroes of both the present and September 11th. And<br />

so, this evening we perform a group of both patriotic and inspirational songs to show our appreciation for both<br />

our country and those who daily put their lives in danger so that we might feel safe, feel free. In a special way,<br />

this concert also honors our community's firefighters who do so much for us each and every day. They are truly<br />

"Everyday Heroes" and we are proud to give them recognition.<br />

The <strong>Federal</strong> <strong>Way</strong> Honor Guard was formed in January 2000. Presently the team consists of 11 members and does various<br />

services for the community, including flag ceremonies for major events, such as business openings and funerals.

The <strong>Federal</strong> <strong>Way</strong> <strong>Chorale</strong> wishes to provide an opportunity for talented vocalists in <strong>Federal</strong> <strong>Way</strong> and surrounding<br />

communities to learn and perform excitinq choral literature from all ages and styles. We belong to the <strong>Chorale</strong> because<br />

we receive much joy from singing. We take great pride in our accomplishments, and so we always strive for excellence.<br />

appointment to audition. Next open audition is Saturday September 7 at the <strong>Federal</strong> <strong>Way</strong> United Methodist Church.<br />

A graduate of Gonzaga University, Don received his masters degree from Eastern<br />

Washington State University. During his thirty years of teaching, Don attended<br />

numerous workshops with conductors such as Norman Luboff, Roger Wagner, Robert<br />

Shaw, John Rutter, Maurice Skones, Paul Salmonovich, and Weston Noble. Don taught<br />

at a number of high schools throughout the State of Washington which included: Colville,<br />

Foster, Thomas Jefferson, Lincoln of Tacoma, Kentridge, and Decatur. During his thirty<br />

years of teaching, Don's choirs frequently were chosen to perform at both State and<br />

Northwest Music Conferences. Don is presently the choirmaster at St. Vincent de Paul<br />

Catholic Church in <strong>Federal</strong> <strong>Way</strong>; a position he has held for over twenty years. Retirement<br />

from teaching allowed Don to fulfill another dream in the Spring of 1993 when <strong>Federal</strong><br />

<strong>Way</strong>'s own community choir, the <strong>Federal</strong> <strong>Way</strong> <strong>Chorale</strong>, was organized by Don and<br />

close friends Jim Burbidge, Carolyn Perrone, AI McEachern, and Joan Tabrum.<br />

Andrew Miller, a Northwest native, majored in vocal and piano performance at the University<br />

of Puget Sound studying with Dr. Thomas Goleeke. He is active in church music and has<br />

played for numerous professional vocal and instrumentalist soloists. He is an invaluable<br />

asset to the chorale in preparing it's challenging repetoire. Andrew has composed numerous<br />

choral and orchestral pieces including "A Shepherd's Song", featuring acclaimed tenor,<br />

Robert McPerson, "A Baptismal Prayer", "Give Thanks", as well as "The Sights and Sounds<br />

of Christmas", and "My Ain Folk", commissioned by the <strong>Federal</strong> <strong>Way</strong> <strong>Chorale</strong>, to name a<br />

few. Andrew has also completed a number of compact disc recordings including "Manic<br />

Faith", "Your Favorite Opera Aria's", "In Love With Santa", "Irish Eyes", recorded in<br />

London 2001, and Children's Lullaby's. In it's first release "In Love With Santa" achieved<br />

gold status in the Netherlands. Andrew is a professor at Highline Community College, and<br />

currently holds posts as musical director at the <strong>Federal</strong> <strong>Way</strong> United Methodist Church on<br />

51st, conductor for the Northwest Chamer Ensemble, and music director for singing<br />

ensemble, "Cross Wind". Andrew just returned from South Korea where he was the pianist<br />

for the touring group "Tour de Force."<br />

Philip Wilkinson studied piano privately for fifteen years and was active as soloist, recitalist, and accompanist. He is<br />

currently organist at Grace Lutheran Church in Des Moines, and plays for ballroom and tango dancing. In addition to<br />

keyboard, he has performed as principal violist with the Rainier Symphony, the Mahler Festival Orchestra, and local<br />

theaters. He also finds time to play "fiddle" with Celtic and Scandinavian folk groups. Philip is a graduate of the<br />

University of Washington.<br />

In keeping with our Spring Pops theme the <strong>Chorale</strong> has performed innumerable other folk songs, spirituals, popular choral<br />
