BANGKOK, Thailand – 26 July 2011 – <strong>Conrad</strong> <strong>Bangkok</strong> today announced the appointment of<br />
<strong>Freddy</strong> <strong>Schmidt</strong> <strong>as</strong> the hotel’s new Executive Chef.<br />
“Chef <strong>Schmidt</strong> brings a unique international culinary expertise to the hotel and our sophisticated<br />
diners,” said Vincent Mercurio, general manager, <strong>Conrad</strong> <strong>Bangkok</strong>. “He w<strong>as</strong> selected <strong>as</strong> Executive<br />
Chef because of his substantial experience in designing creative, exciting and innovative menus.”<br />
Chef <strong>Schmidt</strong> comes from France where he also took up the culinary arts at Ecole Hostellerie. His<br />
European career grew in various Michelin-starred establishments notably in France and Germany.<br />
His posting <strong>as</strong> chef de cuisine of the Queen Elizabeth 2 took him to Asia to work in world-cl<strong>as</strong>s hotels<br />
in Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan and the Philippines. Before joining <strong>Conrad</strong> <strong>Bangkok</strong>, he w<strong>as</strong><br />
Executive Chef at Peninsula Manila and previously worked at <strong>Conrad</strong> Tokyo where he led a<br />
120-member culinary team and four restaurants including the eponymous modern French br<strong>as</strong>serie<br />
Cerise by legendary British, three-Michelin star chef Gordon Ramsay.<br />
Recognized <strong>as</strong> a M<strong>as</strong>ter Chef of France, Chef <strong>Schmidt</strong> h<strong>as</strong> prepared meals for heads of states like<br />
Francois Miterrand of France, George Bush Sr. and Bill Clinton of the United States; top entertainers<br />
like Clint E<strong>as</strong>twood, George Clooney and Michael Jackson.
A member of many chefs <strong>as</strong>sociations such <strong>as</strong> the World M<strong>as</strong>ter Chef Society and Maître Cuisinier<br />
de France (M<strong>as</strong>ter Chef of France), Chef <strong>Schmidt</strong> is an invaluable addition to the <strong>Conrad</strong> <strong>Bangkok</strong><br />
