It was dug, by hand, by 2000 labourers. 150 YEAR CELEBRATIONS and THE BULLETIN During the next two weeks, our focus in the weekly Bulletin will be the ‘150 Year Celebration Day’ on Friday 22nd March. The ‘Bulletin Dates’ page will not appear on the front page, as 150 Year Celebration Day news updates will replace it. ORGANISATIONAL CHANGES In order to ensure that you are fully informed, please note the following staffing changes: Alan Smith, Finance Officer, will be working 3 days per week instead of 5 days. He will work Monday to Wednesday. Lisa Reuss will be working 2 days per week in the Finance Officer role. This will be on Thursday and Friday. In order to facilitate these changes, the weekly newsletter ‘The Bulletin’ will be published on a Wednesday, while Lisa is fulfilling her Administration and Human Resource role, from Monday to Wednesday. The Bulletin can also be emailed to you, but you must complete the paperwork that was sent home in the first week of the school year. Alternatively, call into the Office and we can organise it for you! Please remember that emailing the newsletter is cheaper for the school, too! You can also go onto the website and access all previous newsletters, plus the special 150 Year Celebration Bulletin. Further staffing changes include Meran Allen, who has reduced her days to 4 days per week. Julie Loncaric will replace Meran on a Wednesday and Lisa on a Thursday. Remember, ‘The Bulletin’ will go home on a Wednesday for the rest of the year! 150 YEAR CELEBRATION DAY Parents and extended families are invited to join us on Friday 22nd March from 2 to 8pm at the ‘150 Year Celebration Birthday Party’! The ‘Celebration Day Opening Ceremony’ will begin at 2pm. Ed Hanke, Marj Smith, Ed Cameron, Eric Collyer and Peter Thiele, who are all former students from the 1920s, 30s and 40s, will officially declare the day ‘open’. Page 2 A concert will follow, featuring dancing and singing by all children. Events planned for the day, from 3.45pm, include: • Rides - Cha Cha and Merry-Go-Round • Giant Slide • Jumping Castle • Dunking Machine • ‘Bushwahzee’ entertainment • Releasing the Monarch Butterflies • Fun and Games with ‘Andy’s Antics’ • Re-enactment Group, with artefacts from the 1860s • Memorabilia • Cake Stalls • Sausage Sizzle • Assorted Food and Drink Vans Children can pre-order their tickets for rides now! The cost for 6 tickets is just $20. The children will receive a wristband on the morning of the Celebration Day and they can use their 6 turns as they wish, for the Cha Cha, Merry-Go-Round, Slide and Jumping Castle! Staff will stamp their hand at each ride. Tickets will also be available to purchase on the day, at $4 per ride. Ordering a wristband means you get one ride for free! A reply slip is attached to this newsletter. Please complete and return, with payment, by Wednesday 20th March. As part of our 150 Year Celebrations, families, both past and present, are also invited to ‘Adopt a Monarch Butterfly’ or contribute a paver to the ‘Walk of Pride’. Information regarding these initiatives are included in this newsletter. ‘150 YEAR CELEBRATION DAY’ CLASS-LEAD LEAD ACTIVITIES As you will be aware, our ‘150 Year Celebration Day’, to be held on Friday 22nd March, involves all children and families, past and present. Every grade is organising a stall or activity. The list is as follows: • Old-fashioned Biscuits and Slices, with 2/3G (Mr Granger), 3A (Mrs Fifis), 3H (Ms Howes), 3P (Mrs Gale) • Funny Face Biscuits, with Foundation E (Ms Emselle), Foundation M (Mrs Meilak) and 4D (Mrs Waters) • Lucky Dip, with 2M (Ms Madkhul) and 6E (Ms Evans) • Cold Drinks, Icy Poles and Ice Creams (from the Canteen), with 5S (Ms Seng) and 1C (Mrs Cabble) • ‘Catch a Can’ Quoits game, with 1R (Mrs Raebel) and 5M (Mr Spinks) • Guess the Jelly Beans in a Jar, with 2K (Ms Koole) and 6D (Mr Barclay) • Sausage Sizzle, with Foundation K (Mr Kay) and 4P (Mr Poulton) • ‘Back to School’ Teacher Baby / Early Years Photos – Guess Who Competition, with Foundation E (Ms Emselle) • Cups Guessing Game, with 2R (Ms Ryan) and 6B (Ms Bay) • Lob-a-Treat Treat, with Foundation T (Ms Tobin) and 4W (Mrs Warren) • Slinky Apples, with 1D (Mrs Douglas) and 5W (Ms Williams) • Celebrations Balloons with cup and stick, with Foundation F (Mrs Flatman) PLEASE HELP! In order to make the Celebration Day a huge success, we need parents to volunteer to assist on class-lead stalls, eg: Cake Stall, Sausage Sizzle, Guess the Lollies in the Jar, etc. A roster for your participation was forwarded to all children yesterday. Please complete and return to your child’s teacher by Friday 8th March. Thank you in anticipation of your support. CAKE STALLS We will also be operating Cake Stalls, with a focus on ‘old fashioned biscuits and slices’, on our Celebration Day. In the coming week, all families will receive a paper plate, plastic bag and written advice regarding how you can contribute. We would greatly appreciate donations of ‘old fashioned’ cakes such as ANZAC biscuits, ginger snaps, cup cakes, yo-yos, coconut ice, honey joys, etc. It would be preferable if the cakes and slices were individual serving size. Please note that, due to council guidelines, cream and custard can not be used. Thank you in anticipation of your support. SECOND HAND UNIFORM SALE There is currently a mountain of second hand uniform to sell! We require some parent volunteers to help sell the items. The sale is scheduled for Tuesday 26th March, at 8.30am in Conference Room. If you can spare some time and are willing to help sell second hand uniform, please call Meran on 9848 1122. Thank you in anticipation of your support. GRANDPARENTS’ DAY On Friday 15th March, from 9 to 12.30am, we would encourage all grandparents to come to school. Bring something old or from your childhood / school days to share. Morning tea will be available throughout the morning. Invitations will be forwarded early next week. If you are not a grandparent but a very close friend or relative; then you are most welcome to attend in place of a grandparent or in fact; attend with a grandparent. We want to see as many of you special people as possible on this day! ‘BRIGHT BEGINNINGS’ - BELONGING, BEING, BECOMING Our Bright Beginnings playgroup is now underway! Information regarding dates and times for Term One is available from the Office. If you would like additional information, Larissa can be contacted on 0413 993 796. DRINK BOTTLES Please ensure that your child has a drink bottle, so that they have a ready supply of water. Children are encouraged to keep these bottles on their tables and drink throughout the day!
