Page 4 To be released on our ‘150 Year Celebration Day’ One of the highlights of the ‘150 Year Celebration Day’, which is Friday 22 nd March 2013, will be the release of Monarch butterflies. We hope to release 150 Monarch butterflies to commemorate 150 years of education and heritage at Doncaster Primary School. Monarch butterflies are the most beautiful of all butterflies, some say, and are considered the ‘King’ of the butterflies, hence the name ‘Monarch’. The adult Monarch butterflies are orange-brown with black wing veins and a black and white spotted band along the edge of the wings. They are found in eastern and southern Australia. They are commonly seen in Sydney during summer, usually flying at ground level. The earliest sighting of this butterfly in Sydney was in 1871. More interesting facts on the Monarch butterflies are available at australianmuseum.net.au/Wanderer-Butterfly . We encourage individual, groups and families to adopt the Monarch butterflies for release. Each butterfly will be housed in a specially designed triangular box that can be kept as a memento after the release. Bring along your camera for photographic memories! The cost to adopt each butterfly is $10. Please complete the reply slip below and return it to the Office, with the appropriate payment. These reply slips will be processed in order of receipt. Please reply promptly, as we expect the 150 Monarch butterflies to be adopted very quickly! The closing date has been extended to Friday, 15 th March 2013. Page 5 In celebration of Doncaster Primary School’s 150 Anniversary In Autumn 2012, Doncaster Primary School celebrated the opening of our new Senior School building, the fourth stage of building at our school. As an individual who has spent time at the school, you have helped make Doncaster Primary School the ‘Best School in the Universe’. Now, your family can become a permanent part of Doncaster Primary School by purchasing a commemorative brick, engraved with your name, to be laid in the front entrance of our Senior School building. We would like to pave the entrance of the Senior School building with named bricks, as it is a focal point of the school. Students, families and visitors frequent the area, passing through, meeting one another, and admiring the names of those who have made Doncaster Primary School what it is today. Parents, begin a family tradition by purchasing a brick for your family, son or daughter! One brick serves as both a lasting tribute to your child, as well as a contribution to Doncaster Primary School. Your child is certain to appreciate this thoughtful and unique way of leaving a lasting mark on the school where they have spent so many meaningful days.
