It is with a heavy heart and much sadness that we
share with you the passing of Dr. Marianne Cinat.
Dr. Cinat touched many of our lives and her tireless
and compassionate care made a lasting impression on
each of us who were lucky enough to know her. Her
smile and her infectious laugh will not be
forgotten. Dr. Cinat possessed all of the qualities to
which we aspire in service to our community. Her
dedication, selflessness, and expertise were and
continue to be an inspiration to her colleagues,
trainees, and patients. She dedicated herself to
healing those with the most difficult injuries, as this
was her labor of love. She considered all of you, the
burn community, the fire service, and EMS to be her
extended family.
A memorial fund titled, “The Marianne Cinat
Memorial Fund for Burn Survivors” has been
established in her honor. Please visit http://
Quest has donated $1,000.00 to this fund in
memory of Dr. Cinat
Well here we are in the middle of the year already, and we hope
everyone is enjoying their summer.
During the rally this year we had the opportunity to make a stop at
West Hills Hospital. This is where the Grossman Burn Center is now
located. When we made our stop, we were so happy to see a young
man (Derek Thomas) that was a patient at the burn center,
he had been there for almost a year after being injured in a
traffic accident. He was outside and waiting to
g r e e t
everyone with a big smile. It was so nice to see h i m
coming along with his recovery. He has an a ma z i n g
charm about him and we certainly wish him
well, as he
left the hospital recently to continue his recovery at
home. At our stop the hospital made a g e n e r o u s
donation to Quest. We are very happy to h a v e t h e m
among our contributors. With their help we can continue
our mission to help others affected by burns. Thank you so
much to everyone who was involved in the 2011
Quest Run, for your work, great
meals, donations and
friendship.
We also attended Mount Baldy‘s yearly Steak Fry
fund raiser. The evening was beautiful and the food was
great; it is a huge family affair. The fire fighters and
friends attend the grill, the ladies see to salads, drinks and
several other duties, while the younger ones are always
on hand to refill your
drinks or fill up the peanut dishes.
They are so cute in their official aprons. Bill‘s nurse,
Helena San Marco from Grossman Burn Center, went along
with us. We also visited with Jeff & Eileen Howe from
Burbank Fire Department, who were there also
representing
Quest. And we always enjoy seeing Mt.
B a l d y ‘ s
Chief Bill Stead and his lovely wife Carol.
W e were honored to be invited to a retirement
luncheon for Ricky Saunders from the Burbank
Airport Fire Department. We first met Ricky several years
a g o during a Quest run, when we were escorted onto the
tarmac and led to the fire station. Ricky and his department were
making a donation to us. One of their fundraisers is an annual bake
sale, funds from the bake sale are part of their donation to Quest. He is
a very ―gentle man‖ and everyone will miss him. He might be
remembered by being the driver of the giant yellow crash rig used in
case of a fire emergency at the airport that usually went with us on
Friday of the rally through the San Fernando Valley. And for
sometimes getting people wet with the nozzle. Ricky has been a
firefighter for over 30 years, and now he is looking forward to
traveling all over the world and enjoying his children and adorable
little grandson.
We wish him well, and he promised to be back for some of our
events.
Enjoy every new day. Until next time, take care.
