Non-Contact Process
IR Temperature Transmitter
Introduction
The Eurotron IRtec Rayomatic 20 series of non-contact infrared
thermometers are compact, rugged, and reliable instruments designed
with a modularity concept to meet a wide range of application
requirements,
Principle of Operation
All object surfaces emits infrared energy. The
hotter an object is, the more active its
molecules are, and the more infrared
energy it emits.
An infrared thermometer incorporate optics
that collect the radiant infrared energy from
the object and focus it onto a detector. The
detector converts the energy into an
electrical signal, which is amplified, digitally
converted and linearize to be available as a
linear electrical output signal from 4 to 20
mA. The temperature of the body can
therefore be determined by measuring the
intensity of this infrared energy.
Applications
Steel Production
Electronic Module
The IRtec Rayomatic 20 represents the
cutting-edge in non contact temperature
measurements. The rugged treaded
enclosure includes an integrated sensor with
various spectral response choices for
standard and specialized applications. The
thermometer has a 4/20 mA output signal
linear with the measuring range and can be
used connected with standard indicator,
data acquisition and control systems (e.g.
PLC, DCS, indicators, etc.).
The IRtec Rayomatic 20 series of thermometers are suitable for a wide range of
manufacturing and processing industries such as: ferrous and non-ferrous metals, glass,
minerals, ceramics, chemicals, electronics and research and development.
Glass
Adjustable Emissivity
The infrared energy emitted by a surface
differs according to its composition and
physical condition. The parameter used to
characterize the object surface, is called
emissivity. The IRtec Rayomatic 20 includes
two rotary switches for emissivity settings. The
emissivity value can be adjusted from 0.20
to 1.00.
Target laser pinpointing
Each IRtec Rayomatic 20 can be optionally
equipped with a laser pinpointing system to
simplify alignment operation. When the
target has small and critical dimensions the
laser aiming system can be activated by
the process operator to check the
appropriate alignment.
Report of Calibration
Each instrument can be shipped with a
traceable Report of Calibration stating the
nominal and actual values and the
deviation errors.
EMC Compatibility
The IRtec Rayomatic 20 is designed and
fully tested in compliance with the Directive
n. 89/336/CEE Electromagnetic Compatibility.
Quality System
Research, development, production,
inspection and certification activities are
defined by methods and procedures of
Eurotron Quality System. Eurotron Quality
System has been inspected in compliance
with ISO 9001 by Gastec.
IRtec Rayomatic 40
2-Wire Smart Temperature TRX
with Digital Communication Capability
Introduction
Eurotron IRtec Rayomatic series of microcontroller based smart
temperature transmitters represents a real innovative step in non contact
temperature measurement.
A compact, high technology, fully modular, designed to meet all
application requirements by offering high performance and advanced
functionality.
An optional laser aiming system simplify the identification of the measuring
surface area.
IRtec Rayomatic is a 2-wire current loop (4-20 mA) transmitter and it can
digitally communicate connecting to the same current loop. This features
allows networked control and communication from a PC RS-232 serial port
using a PCHRT/RS-232 adapter.
The digital protocol operates using the
frequency shift keying (FSK) principle, which is
based on the Bell 202 communication
standard where sine waves are
superimposed on the DC analog signal to
gives simultaneous analog and digital
communication.
Signal Processing
The instrument includes signal processing
features including: Emissivity, Peak-Picker,
Valley-Picker, Peak Hold, Valley Hold and
Averaging all of which are adjustable on the
PC using the IRSetup software.
Laser Pinpointing
Each IRtec Rayomatic transmitter can be
optionally equipped with a laser pinpointing
system to simplify alignment operation.
When the target has small and critical
dimensions the laser aiming system can be
activated by the process operator to verify
appropriate alignment.
Applications
Digital Communication
The smart IRtec Rayomatic uses a digital
communication method superimposed on
the 2 wire 4-20 mA current loop to
communicate with PCs, lap-tops and/or
handheld communicators.
The communication capability also means
that a PC can be used both for remote
calibration and transmitter operative mode
configuration.
IRtec Rayomatic 60
Fiber Optic Thermometer
Introduction
IRtec Rayomatic 60 is a fiber optic infrared thermometer with miniature
optical head and separate electronics. Two different operating wavelength
models, optics, and temperature ranges are available to meet most
industrial high temperature applications when the ambient operative
temperature is very high and the target is not easily accessible.
Measuring System
Each IRtec 60 thermometer consists of
three separate and interchangeable parts:
Single lens optical adapter (head) to
collect the IR radiation;
Flexible fiber optic cable steel coated to
transmit the IR radiation from the "head" to
the electronic module;
Microprocessor electronic module to
convert the IR radiation in electric signal.
The thermometer can be ordered for
different measuring ranges as specified in
ordering instruction table A.
Optical Head
Five different interchangeable optical
adapters are available for different
target/distance vision cones.
Flexible Fiber Optic
You can choose between different fiber
optic cable lengths. The fiber is protected by
a flexible steel band for environment
applications up to 200°C.
Fast Lock Connectors
The optic head can be connected and
disconnected from the process using a
special fast connection system. It allows the
quick installing and maintenance of the
measuring system
Laser Pinpointing System
An optional laser is installed into the
electronic module and the spot is projected
by the optical head for target alignment.
The laser can be switched on and off from
remote location.
Signal Processing
The instrument includes signal processing
features including: Emissivity, Peak-Picker,
Valley-Picker, Peak Hold, Valley Hold and
Averaging all of which are adjustable on the
PC using the IRSetup software.
Electronic Module
The electronic module contains a
detector, processing electronics, and
Bell202 serial communication interface. The
Bell202 interface consist of a modem to
modulate the digital communication over
the 4-20 mA 2-wire current loop. This feature
allows you to change the thermometer
setting connecting a PC on the signal
current loop using an RS232 converter. You
IRtec Rayomatic 100
Fiber Optic Ratio Thermometer
Introduction
The Fiber Optic IRtec Rayomatic 100 ratio thermometer provides
maximum performance in high temperature applications, such as metal
production, foundries, annealing, glass making, forging, induction heating,
kilns, and refractory.
The rugged design steel coated fiber optic cable allows both confined
space and high ambient temperature installations.
Principle of Operation
The instrument use the "2-color" principle, in
which the temperature measurement is
made simultaneously by two independent
detectors with different, but adjacent,
narrow band infrared filters. By ratioing the
output of these two detectors, the
temperature measurement became
independent of a number of factors that
during the measurement usually degrade
the accuracy of one conventional
instrument.
Exceeds the Monochromatic
Application Limits
Usually you can use a standard
monochromatic thermometer when the hot
object being measured fill the target area
and no obstruction can interfere with the
cone of vision. Same time the application
does not allow the Infrared thermometer to
work well.
For example when the object is smaller than
the nominal target; when emissivity changes
for gray targets; when dust, vapour, particles
are in the field of view; when you measure
behind a dirty lens or window.
A ratio thermometer can usually solve these
problems. If the energy reduction is lower
than 95%, the ratio thermometer can
measure better than a monochromatic
thermometer.
E-Slope
A two-color thermometer consists of two
single-color "brightness" thermometers in the
same package. The signals from the two
detectors are then processed as a ratio. The
calibration curve is based on the ratio of the
two signals, which will be very accurate, as
long as the partial obstruction or attenuation
affects each of the wavelengths by an
equal amount.
In addition, some applications require
adjustments for "non-gray" behaviour of the
measured material. A good example is the
measurement of molten metals where the
emissivity of the material varies with
wavelength. Even when a two-color
thermometer is used to measure the
temperature of some molten metals, the
resulting temperature reading may be
incorrect because the pre-programmed
ratio or "slope" of the two signals is incorrect.
To compensate for this type of error, the
IRtec Rayomatic 100 have a useradjustable
"E-slope" feature that allows the
user to set the correct emissivity slope for the
material being measured.
The E-slope control modifies the ratio of
the two signals to correct for the unequal
spectral emissivities of the target. When
measuring a material or alloy type for the
first time, the E-slope value is determined
by adjusting the E-slope control so that
the instrument reading matches the
temperature reading from an accurate
contact type device. The E-slope value is
then known and used for that particular
material. Once the E-slope is set, the
problems of smoke, steam, dust, and so
forth are handled by the instrument.
Infrared Thermometers
Introduction
Each body, at temperatures above the absolute zero (-273°C or 0K),
emits energy as electromagnetic radiation. When temperature rises,
the intensity of this infrared energy increases.
The temperature of the body surface can therefore be determined by
measuring the intensity of this energy in a small spectral band: the
infrared region. The instruments used to measure this energy and to
calculate the related temperature are called infrared thermometers
or non-contact thermometers.
Temperature measurements of a liquid or gaseous compound have
been successfully made with thermoelectric or expansion thermometers,
thanks to the good thermal exchange of the sensor with the fluid.
With solid bodies, a good thermal exchange is difficult to be obtained
and an additional measuring error should be considered.
When the target is moving or is electrically hazardous, a contact
temperature measurement can’t be made.
Non-contact IR temperature measurement could be the only solution
to the above application problems.
Typical application of IRtec portable thermometers is to control
temperature where an increase of its value means a possible
machine wearing, aging, faulting, etc.
Instrument Highlights
Optical System
The optical system consists of a high quality
lens which brings the infrared energy to the
detector; a filter and a field stop which defines
the visual cone and the minimum target
dimensions.
The detector is placed at the focal point of the
optical system. No focussing operations are
required.
Dual Optic
The IRtec P800+ can be used both as a
standard focus and a close focus infrared
thermometer. Rotating the lens, the instrument
change the optic and the dual laser change
the inclination to the new focus point.
Target Pinpointing
A correct aiming of the target is an important
feature in a non-contact thermometer.
Immediate evaluation of the smallest
measurable target area is also an important
factor in many applications.
With a laser pinpointing the operation of the
instrument is extremely simplified. You simply
aim the target and read the temperature while
keeping a safe body position.
Available target pinpointing are:
TTS - True Target Size
A dual laser pointer define at different distances
the true target dimension. This unique and
innovative system go over the limits of the old
crossed laser pointer based system. TTS really
guarantees the measuring of the true area
Adjustable Emissivity
Infrared energy emitted by a surface differs
according to its composition and physical
conditions. The parameter used to characterize
object surface is called emissivity.
To obtain these temperature readings, it is
necessary to set the right emissivity values of
the surface to be
measured.
IRtec P is equipped with
an emissivity adjustment
from 0.10 to 1.00 directly
through keyboard.
The instrument includes a
typical emissivity
materials reference table.
Calculated Measurements
Measuring unstable input signals could be
made by programming the digital filter.
In addition the operator can select minimum,
maximum, Tmax -Tmin operations to identify
hot spots, fast scanning, etc.
A triple laser pointer can precisely locate both
the center and the true dimension of the
measuring area at different distances.
LD - Parallel
A dual laser parallel pointer can precisely
locate target at long distances.
Green laser vs. Red laser
The green laser pointer helps the operator
to better view the laser pointer when the target
temperature is higher than 1000°C.
Thermocouple Input
To extend the operative capability, the
instrument is equipped with an auxiliary input for
thermocouples type K and S.
This feature, when used with a calibrated
thermocouple, can be used for automatic
emissivity adjustment.
The thermocouple can be used also to
compensate temperature readings to reflected
radiations from hot crowns (e.g. reheating
furnaces) or to measure objects internal
temperature.
Data Memory
The instrument can be equipped with an internal
memory to store up to 500 input data records
complete with date & time acquisition .
Two types of data acquisition can be selected by
the user:
Continuous acquisition
The operator can select the interval time
between each acquisition and store
progressively the input data in the "Tag 0" file.
Acquisition by dedicated Tags
Operator can assign one tag file for each
apparatus or operating area and store, by
pressing one key only, one or more temperature
measurements.
The high contrast custom LCD display
indicates the actual temperature value
and shows the operative mode
selected. The display backlight is
automatically switched on to allow
easy reading in poor light conditions.
Standard Agencies and Quality Auditors require
the collection, organization and availability of
traceability documents.
IRLogMan supporting software is available to
transfer a selection of plant inspections from a
PC to the internal memory of the instrument in
order to simplify field check and select the
appropriate tag number.
Dedicated input data are memory stored and
downloaded to a PC to document the
THERMOMETERS
IRtec MicroRay Series
Portable infrared Thermometers
Introduction
Eurotron portable thermometers series has been designed to control the
points of the installation where the temperature is a critical parameter. The
instruments can measure the superficial temperature, in order to localize in a
quick way problems of lubrication, overload, short circuits, or overheated or
out of range equipments. The series is composed by models with a
temperature range from -32°C up to 2000°C, with accuracy up to ±0.5% of
reading.
Built-In Contact Probe - RTD
The MicroRay + and ++ models are equipped
with a connector for contact measurement.
The available temperature probes include a
Contact, Immersion, Penetration, & Ambient Air.
One compact probe can actually be stored
inside the unit for easy access. Longer probes
are available if needed and provided with a
wire connection.
Applications
Laser Sighting - US Ultra Sharp
All MicroRay models are equipped with a Class
II Laser for aiming purposes. The offset laser
sighting will allow you to identify the approx.
center of the target being measured. The Ultra
Sharp definition of laser makes it easy to read
outdoors as well.
High and Low Alarms
All MicroRay models include a programmable
Hi/Lo alarm. A visual label on display and a
beep (only for some models) will alert the
operator for critical target heating.
Adjustable Emissivity
The infrared energy emitted by a surface differs
according to its composition and physical
condition. The parameter, used to characterize
the object surface, is called emissivity.
The preset value 0.95 is valid on most common
applications with few exception like shiny
metals.
Emissivity can also be adjusted from 0.2 to 1.
You can find some guideline on our web site. It
is also possible adjust emissivity automatically
using contact probe.
Tripod Mounting
Standard photographic tripod thread is
available for accurate and long term
measurements.
9V Battery
Easily replaceable standard 9V battery is
provided with the unit. A kit is also available for
rechargeable battery and external charger.
THERMOMETERS
IRtec MicroRay Series
Portable infrared Thermometers
Introduction
Eurotron portable thermometers series has been designed to control the
points of the installation where the temperature is a critical parameter. The
instruments can measure the superficial temperature, in order to localize in a
quick way problems of lubrication, overload, short circuits, or overheated or
out of range equipments. The series is composed by models with a
temperature range from -32°C up to 2000°C, with accuracy up to ±0.5% of
reading.
Built-In Contact Probe - RTD
The MicroRay + and ++ models are equipped
with a connector for contact measurement.
The available temperature probes include a
Contact, Immersion, Penetration, & Ambient Air.
One compact probe can actually be stored
inside the unit for easy access. Longer probes
are available if needed and provided with a
wire connection.
Applications
Laser Sighting - US Ultra Sharp
All MicroRay models are equipped with a Class
II Laser for aiming purposes. The offset laser
sighting will allow you to identify the approx.
center of the target being measured. The Ultra
Sharp definition of laser makes it easy to read
outdoors as well.
High and Low Alarms
All MicroRay models include a programmable
Hi/Lo alarm. A visual label on display and a
beep (only for some models) will alert the
operator for critical target heating.
Adjustable Emissivity
The infrared energy emitted by a surface differs
according to its composition and physical
condition. The parameter, used to characterize
the object surface, is called emissivity.
The preset value 0.95 is valid on most common
applications with few exception like shiny
metals.
Emissivity can also be adjusted from 0.2 to 1.
You can find some guideline on our web site. It
is also possible adjust emissivity automatically
using contact probe.
Tripod Mounting
Standard photographic tripod thread is
available for accurate and long term
measurements.
9V Battery
Easily replaceable standard 9V battery is
provided with the unit. A kit is also available for
rechargeable battery and external charger.
IRLogMan
Datalogging Software
Introduction
The last generation of Infrared sensors and transmitters includes advanced
electronic technologies. This technology allows to improve the standard
temperature measurements with temperature processing capability.
IRLogMan software package has been developed to be used for configuring
the IRtec P and IRtec MicroRay portable infrared thermometers. The
Software allows viewing, graphing, exporting and reporting the measure.
Main Features
IRLogMan can run automatically with all
Eurotron portable IR thermometer.
The following list show the compatible
instruments for this software revision.
IRLogMan software package enables
users to create unique databases
designed to manage measure with your
specific equipment lists and their
associated diagnosis and repair
recommendations. Create multiple lists
and upload unique lists to IRtec
thermometer that cover planned
inspections or locations. Easy to use and
simple to load with your facilities
equipment information, IRLogMan
automatically uploads the active data
logger files to IRtec thermometer.
Datalogging
With this feature you can data log the
temperature values from the portable
thermometer to the selected Tag. If the
Tag preference do not include the Data
log, you can perform a manual
acquisition only. For automatic data
logging, Tag preferences should include
Data logging information.
Preset Emissivity Table
(IRtec P Series only)
At first run the software is provided with a
manageable emissivity table. The default
stored emissivity values are grouped into
two groups: the metals and non-metals.
This feature allows you to organize your
customized table with the emissivity
values that your work require. You can
send the stored value directly to the
instrument by using the USB port and the
supplied cable.
Graphic Module
The software allows you to generate a
graphic for each data acquisition
Data Download
With this feature you can download
memories (stored values) from the IRtec
P or MicroRay thermometers to a selected
Tag on the software
Multiple Datalogging
(IRtec Rayomatic 14 only)
The software is able to perform a multiple
data logging if you have more than one
instrument. The Rayomatic 14 model can
be also connected using its RS485
interface in order to simultaneously send
the measurements to the computer. In
this case a different address for each
instrument has to be set.
Print Reports
The software generate a report that you
can print or export in a standard type file
format for subsequent reading and/or
analysis.
