Mark Cuban, owner of the Dallas Mavericks, shared<br />
high pra<strong>is</strong>e for h<strong>is</strong> friends Pat and Emmitt Smith,<br />
the recipients of the 2010 Robert S. Folsom Leadership<br />
Award last fall.<br />
“I know a competitor when I see one, and in <strong>th<strong>is</strong></strong><br />
case I see two — two amazing competitors who<br />
put that spirit and energy … into things that really,<br />
really matter,” the master of ceremonies said.<br />
“When they set their minds to achieve something,<br />
it always happens.”<br />
Cuban was not just referring to the former Dallas<br />
Cowboy’s record-setting athletic abilities or dance<br />
moves on Dancing With the Stars. Nor was he<br />
solely focused on Mrs. Smith’s acting talent<br />
or achievement as the first African American<br />
M<strong>is</strong>s Virginia and runner-up M<strong>is</strong>s USA contestant.<br />
He was most importantly considering the Smiths’<br />
abundant service work outside of their professions<br />
that earned them the Folsom Leadership Award<br />
for 2010.<br />
Because of <strong>your</strong> generosity and support, the<br />
award dinner ra<strong>is</strong>ed $957,000 to benefit indigent<br />
care programs and services throughout Method<strong>is</strong>t<br />
<strong>Health</strong> <strong>System</strong>.<br />
