Winston’s Wish is
asking runners to put
their best foot forward
for Cheltenham’s
Half Marathon 2013.
Winston’s Wish, the leading charity for childhood bereavement, is very excited to have been
nominated as the official charity partner for the new Cheltenham Half Marathon. Runners will hit
the streets on Sunday 15 September through the very heart of Cheltenham in this exciting new
race. Runners who join Team Winston will be helping to raise vital funds to support specialist
bereavement care for children confronted by the death of a parent or sibling.
Catherine Ind, Acting Chief Executive at Winston’s Wish said: “We are honoured to be involved
with this new half marathon and for it to be on our doorstep! This is a great challenge and we hope
people will be inspired to run, raise money for Winston’s Wish and give bereaved children hope and
confidence for a brighter future. We are looking forward to supporting all our runners and cheering
them on as they cross the finish line!”
With months to go before the big day, there’s plenty of time to train for the race, even for complete
beginners. Our runners always find that running for a charity provides that extra motivation and
inspiration to stick to a fitness plan. Winston’s Wish has a wonderful running ethos and we will
be there throughout your race journey providing support, training advice as well as cheers and
encouragement on race day.
We believe that Cheltenham’s wide streets and beautiful tree lined regency architecture provide the
perfect running track for a traffic-free road race. The proposed route has even been designed to be
mainly flat, to suit all abilities; meaning no excuse, this is definitely an event not to be missed!
Each year over 24,000 children will receive the life changing news that their parent or sibling has
died. With the support of Team Winston runners, Winston’s Wish will continue to strive to meet the
ever increasing demand on its services. Winston’s Wish supports many thousands of children
and their families every year through our in depth, specialist
bereavement programmes.
