Presenting – Directorate of Measures
and Precious Metals
The Directorate and ATS showed willingness to sign a cooperation agreement to define their coordinated activities
to ensure that results of measurements, i.e. results of conformity assessments are reliable and comparable for all the
clients in the Republic of Serbia, whereas they would be aimed at solving metrology and accreditation issues of joint
interest.
The Directorate of Measures and Precious Metals (www.dmdm.rs) is a national metrology institute that is a part of the
Ministry of Economy and Regional Development and has a long tradition of about 130 years.
Serbia is a member of the Metre Convention and
International Organization of Legal Metrology, and
a founding member of the European Association of
National Metrology Institutes - EURAMET. In 2002 the
Directorate became a signatory to the CIPM MRA,
i.e. the mutual recognition agreement related to the
results of measurement, calibration and calibration
certificates, whereas calibration and measurement
capability for certain quantities are given in Annex С
of the key comparison database of the International
Bureau for Weights and Measures (BIPM KCDB).
Activities
Pursuant to the Law on Metrology, the
following activities shall be performed
by the Directorate of Measures and
Precious Metals: management of the
system of legal units of measurement
in Serbia; realisation, storage,
maintenance and perfecting of
measurement standards of the
Republic of Serbia and enabling
their participation in international
activities; provision of metrological
traceability for calibration
laboratories, inspection
and testing laboratories;
organisation of calibration
activities; testing the type
of measuring instruments
and their verification;
provision of professional
opinion to authorise laboratories to verify
measuring instruments; performance of metrology control
and keeping of the register of authorised laboratories.
In addition to a large number of important activities it
performs, the Directorate, as the representative of the
Republic of Serbia, also establishes the cooperation
in the filed of metrology with international and
regional metrology organisations and other relevant
institutions, and with relevant inspection bodies; it
provides information in the field of metrology and
adopts regulations governing this field on the basis of
the recommendations of the International Organization
of Legal Metrology.
By performing activities and tasks in the filed of
metrology, the Directorate constantly increases
the level of competence of its employees and its
calibration and measurement capability, improves
metrological properties of measurement standards
and accompanying equipment to ensure traceability of
the results of measurement to International System of
Units (SI) for all clients and show necessary uncertainty
of measurement.
Legal metrology also includes practical work, i.e.
laboratory work on testing the type of measuring
instruments and their verification, and therefore the
Directorate of Measures and Precious Metals has legal
metrology laboratories where precise measurements
for the entire country are provided by approving
the type, verification and marking of measuring
instruments.
