Meeting Summary
Workshop #26 was held June 9, 2009 at the ODVA Headquarters on June 9, 2009. Sixteen
people from 11 companies attended the workshop. The topics covered are summarized below:
1. Workshop #25 Review
Kevin Knake (HMS) presented the meeting summary from Workshop #25. The summary is
posted on the ODVA web site in the Workshop area.
2. PlugFest Future Plans
Kevin Knake provided an update on the Workshop/PlugFest Ad-hoc Committee status.
PlugFest content and pricing is still being discussed. PlugFest #11 will be postponed until all
issues regarding content and pricing are resolved.
The Ad-hoc Committee determined that a more formal approval process needs to be adopted
within the workshop for approval of decisions and documents. The workshop approved the
following approval process:
Workshop decisions and documents are approved through a voting process using an
individual show of hands of participants present at the workshop with a majority ruling. A list
of all individuals attending the workshop will be published along with the meeting summary.
All documents must be sent to the TRB for review and final approval.

3. Automatic Runtime Configuration
Dave VanGompel (Rockwell Automation) presented an investigation of using the Connection
Configuration Object to perform automatic runtime configuration. Automatic runtime
configuration would allow scanners to establish I/O connections with adapters by obtaining
connection information directly from the device. Feedback from the workshop was to
implement full device configuration rather than a partial or default configuration for quick
configuration startup.
The next step is to create a detailed proposal for review by the workshop. The presentation is

4. ForwardOpen Extended Error Messages
Ovidiu Adam (Phoenix Contact) presented a proposal for a ForwardOpen with extended error
messages that would better clarify connection faults. The workshop voted to take the
proposal to the CIP Systems SIG for review and creation of a CIP SE. The presentation is
posted on the ODVA web site in the Workshop area.
5. Address Conflict Detection for Multi-Port Devices
Merrill Harriman (Schneider Electric) presented a proposal for address conflict detection for
multi-port devices. Workshop participants are to review the proposal with their development
teams and provide feedback at WS#27. The presentation and whitepaper are posted on the
ODVA web site in the Workshop area.

6. SNMP MIB Support for Multi-Port Devices
Merrill Harriman presented a proposal for SNMP support for multi-port devices. Workshop
participants are to review the proposal with their development teams and provide feedback at
WS#27. Torben Bertelsen (Danfoss Drives) agreed to provide a summary of SNMP MIB
support for competing industrial Ethernet networks. The presentation is posted on the ODVA
web site in the Workshop area.
7. Connection Disruption Recovery / Desired Behaviors
Jamin Wendorf (Real Time Automation) presented on Connection Disruption Recovery and
Desirable Behaviors. Jamin will create a CIP SE draft for review at WS #27. The
presentation is posted on the ODVA web site in the Workshop area.
8. Network LED Behavior
Jamin Wendorf provided an overview of the Network LED Behavior ESE. The ESE has been
approved by the SIG and sent to the TRB for review. The presentation is posted on the
ODVA web site in the Workshop area.
9. EtherNet/IP Troubleshooting Guide Update
Ray Romito (Rockwell Automation) was leading the working group to develop an EtherNet/IP
Troubleshooting guide. Ray has new responsibilities with Rockwell and can no longer lead
the working group. Ray will contact Viktor Schiffer of Rockwell to find out if Viktor is
interested in leading the working group. Merrill Harriman has volunteered to join the working
group.
10. Workshop #27 Planning
Kevin Knake led a discussion on topics for Workshop #27. The group agreed upon a list of
topics. The date and location for Workshop #27 was set for October 13-14, 2009 at the
ODVA Headquarters in Ann Arbor, MI.
