It is in the upper regions of the sky, too, that the traditional Anishinaabeg envision the Land of Souls, a mirror of Anishinaabewaki where the departed live in a pleasant village in peace and without scarcity, a land reached by the djiibayag (soul-spirits of the deceased) traveling a trail leading from the east to the west. This Path of Souls, or Goes- Down Behind-the-Sky, can be seen in the Milky Way at clear night.
