The Civil War divided the
nation. The division was
about slavery and how it
was practiced. Also was
about the lack of balance in
slave states versus nonslave
states.

Slaves where given the right to fight
for their freedom in the Union Army.
After serving they were promised
freedom. They were however under
supplied and not paid correctly , and
still out preformed most of the Regular
Union Army.
The Civil War put the North versus the South
and effectively brother versus brother. The
country was still young and families lived on
both sides of the boarder and would find
themselves looking across the field at other
family members.
President Lincoln was Commander
and Chief during the
Civil War. He never controlled
the country as a hole.
