Dear Fleisher Exhibition & Art Sale On Sunday, November 4, Fleisher will hold its biennial event Dear Fleisher, 4 x 6 Inches of Art, an invitational exhibition and sale of original, postcard-sized works of art. Hundreds of artists submit 4 x 6 inch works in a variety of media and styles, each of which is exhibited anonymously and sold on a first-come, first-served basis for $50. Artists sign their names on the back of each card, so that the viewers and buyers will be drawn to works based on their aesthetic resonance with the piece. As this is an event intended for everyone in the Fleisher community, and in keeping with Fleisher’s value of accessibility, the $50 price tag makes it possible for a wide audience to acquire an original piece of art. All proceeds from Dear Fleisher support Fleisher’s national-award-winning art education programs and exhibitions. Since its inaugural exhibition in 2004, Dear Fleisher has featured over 2,000 works by 800 artists, and raised more than $150,000 for Fleisher’s programs. Fleisher Celebrates the 35th Anniversary of the Wind Challenge Exhibition Series The 2012–2013 season marks the 35th anniversary of Fleisher’s acclaimed Wind Challenge Exhibition Series, the region’s premier juried exhibition program. Nine artists will be featured in three sixweek, three-person exhibitions, with the freedom to show any new or recent body of work. The Wind Challenge Exhibition Series introduces regional contemporary art to a broad audience, and helps emerging artists advance their professional careers. In addition to the exhibition, Fleisher will continue to offer a series of free artist-led public programs including lectures, gallery discussions, and visits by students from Fleisher’s on-site classes and its communitybased programs in public schools and social service agencies. The Wind Challenge Exhibition Series has featured new works by more than 300 regional artists in a variety of media. Past Wind Challenge artists include photographer Robert Asman and sculptor Syd Carpenter, both of whom were later awarded a Pew Fellowship in the Arts; beloved Fleisher teaching artist Charlotte Yudis; and brothers Billy and Stephen Dufala, winners of the 2009 West Prize. The 2012–2013 Wind Challenge Exhibition Series opens September 14 and features work from artists Micah Danges, Julianna Foster, Bill Gerhard, Elizabeth Hamilton, Jake Kehs, Ryan Kelly, Erin Murray, Tim Portlock, and Bohyun Yoon.
