choosing to make an unrestricted investment in their community. They
understand that community needs change significantly over time and
that the investment needed most urgently tomorrow may not even be
on the radar today.
Through their unrestricted gifts to The Community Foundation, these
donors are having a great impact today on Northeast Florida’s
neighborhoods, its young people and its nonprofit sector.
In large measure, their gifts are supporting work that not only has
great leadership but also has great traction on the ground, engaging
citizens in the decisions and activities that build the stronger
communities of tomorrow.
JACKSONVILLE PUBLIC
EDUCATION FUND
In the early years of its 10-year commitment to Quality Education for
All, The Community Foundation recognized the need for community
infrastructure that would sustain the effort to improve Duval County
public schools long after the Foundation’s initiative ended.
Drawing on research, best practices in other communities, national
expertise and local knowledge, the Foundation spearheaded the
creation of the Jacksonville Public Education Fund, a high-capacity
organization that could advocate for and support efforts to improve
the quality of public education over the long term.
Formally established in 2009, and nurtured in large part by core
operating support from The Community Foundation’s unrestricted
funds, Jacksonville Public Education Fund quickly established itself as
a resource for knowledge and high-quality research.
But Jacksonville Public Education Fund also recognized that public
education needed public engagement. In late 2011, it launched ONE
by ONE, an innovative strategy to engage citizens in conversations
about the future of public education in Duval County. >
The Community Foundation supports organizations
that are changing the landscape in Northeast Florida:
Through the ONE by ONE exhibit and community
conversations, the Jacksonville Public Education Fund
brought new voices to the discussion about the future
