energy centre.<br />

What the Trust was look<strong>in</strong>g for?<br />

The Trust needs to upgrade its exist<strong>in</strong>g<br />

low carbon energy provision on its<br />

expand<strong>in</strong>g medical and biomedical<br />

campus, which <strong>in</strong>cludes the world<br />

renowned Addenbrooke’s Hospital.<br />

How are we help<strong>in</strong>g?<br />

We’re preferred bidder to develop a<br />

new energy centre for the campus<br />

over a 25-year contract term. We will<br />

also reduce on-site energy demand<br />

throughout the hospital. The energy<br />

centre will save almost 30,000 tonnes<br />

of carbon a year, surpass<strong>in</strong>g the Trust’s<br />

susta<strong>in</strong>ability targets by 27%. This means<br />

a 47% cut <strong>in</strong> carbon emissions and<br />

more than a 50% reduction <strong>in</strong> grid<br />

electricity and gas consumption over<br />

the contract term. The new energy<br />

centre will also provide low-carbon<br />

heat<strong>in</strong>g, hot water and electricity for<br />

Addenbrooke’s and Rosie hospitals. The<br />

centre will use advanced, <strong>in</strong>novative<br />

technology <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g a brand new<br />

<strong>in</strong>c<strong>in</strong>erator, a highly efficient Rolls-<br />

Royce comb<strong>in</strong>ed heat and power<br />

plant and biomass boilers that use<br />

susta<strong>in</strong>able wood chip as fuel source.
