1 Introduction
The purpose of this report is to update members of the Area Museums Committee on the
operation of the tourism and heritage facilities operated by the Borough Council over the
2008 calendar year and in particular to focus on developments since the most recent
report of 6 th October 2008.
The report also provides an update in connection with the King’s Lynn Heritage and
Cultural Asset Review

2.1 Visitor numbers
Total numbers of visitors to the Borough Council’s two main Tourist Information Centres
in King’s Lynn and Hunstanton for the period January – December 2008 are expected to
have shown a slight overall decrease of around 0.6% compared with 2007.
Visitors levels to King’s Lynn TIC were down on 2007 levels (the decrease was
predominantly in June) when the Vancouver exhibition took place but still ahead of levels
achieved between 2002 and 2006.
At Hunstanton expected final visitors numbers will show an increase on the levels for
2007, although still below the levels achieved in the 5 preceding years.
2.2 Figure 1 and 2 shows year on year comparison for visitor numbers during the
period January – December 2008 (Estimates for December in italics)
