SOCIAL UPLIFTMENT
[Welfare/Healthcare/Poverty Alleviation/BEE SED/Tax]
People in our country are often suffering on an unimaginable
scale. We felt compelled to move from concern to
compassion and alleviate the plight of this section of our
community. We have taken the initiative to reach out to
address several areas of need:
MEDICAL SUPPORT
Medical Unit – Salvokop
A full time nurse provides primary healthcare as
well as advice on basic healthcare issues. Services
and medicines are provided free of charge.
Dental unit – Salvokop
POPUP in partnership with the Dental Department
at MEDUNSA provides free dental care to
our students and the community.
Eye Care unit – Salvokop
Volunteer optometrists supply a subsidised
service to the community. Patients are screened
before an eye test is performed and, if needed,
glasses are provided at very low cost.
WELFARE OUTREACH – FOOD, CLOTHING AND COUN-
SELLING
Doxa Deo and POPUP are involved in caring for our communities
by providing in basic needs:
– Doxa Deo has established outreaches at many
of our campuses where food and clothing are
provided to people in need. Doxa Deo campuses
are involved in reaching out to their communities
and specifically those in need.
daily basis. We also provide 200 meals per day to
unemployed and homeless people in the Inner
can obtain clothing free of charge. Hundreds of
people, from babies to adults, are assisted every
year.
ROPE (Reach Out Port Elizabeth)
ROPE is a Section 21 company operating in the Port Elizabeth
AIDS EDUCATION AND PREVENTION
[Education/HIV/Aids]
Doxa Deo is conscious of the fact that our country is suffering
because of the scourge of this disease. We have
partnered with various community based organisations
to serve in the education and prevention in this challenge
facing our nation.
• University of Pretoria – Doxa Deo has partnered
with Reaching a Generation (RAG) and Hope
Education Foundation to study attitudes toward
HIV/AIDS and develop a programme to influence
behaviour. This programme is sponsored by the
centres will also provide education and counselling.
YOUTH DEVELOPMENT – METAMORPHO
[Leadership/Discipleship]
Metamorpho is a year of your life programme started in
1998. Young people are assisted to establish their life
mission and approach life with a Christian worldview. As
part of this they are equipped with leadership principles
to ensure that they are enabled to make a difference in
the world. As part of the programme they stay in families,
a group of students in a house, for the duration of the
programme which contributes toward teambuilding and
healthy social interaction. Areas of empowerment include
character development, conflict management, developing
potential and many others.
Impact
Christ
