South Shore Seahawks<br />
youth hockey recap<br />
Here’s a summary of last weekend’s South Shore<br />
Seahawks acti<strong>on</strong>.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Mite A team took <strong>on</strong> Milt<strong>on</strong> and came up big,<br />
winning 6-3. <strong>The</strong> teams were a bit timid early <strong>on</strong>, but<br />
<strong>the</strong> Seahawks quickly built <strong>the</strong> pressure with nifty<br />
passing and stingy defense.<br />
Late in <strong>the</strong> first, Jake Sannella worked <strong>the</strong> puck<br />
down <strong>the</strong> offensive sideboard and found Declan Scott<br />
at <strong>the</strong> top of <strong>the</strong> circle, who fed an open Kevin Leary<br />
<strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> Seahawks’ first goal. <strong>The</strong> Seahawks added<br />
to <strong>the</strong>ir lead in <strong>the</strong> sec<strong>on</strong>d with Kevin Leary taking<br />
a loose puck and going in al<strong>on</strong>e, beating <strong>the</strong> Milt<strong>on</strong><br />
goalie stick-side. Leary completed his natural hat trick<br />
a few minutes later <strong>on</strong> a carb<strong>on</strong> copy goal of his first.<br />
Sannella pushed <strong>the</strong> puck into <strong>the</strong> offensive z<strong>on</strong>e<br />
where Scott w<strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong> battle in <strong>the</strong> corner and found<br />
Leary open out fr<strong>on</strong>t <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>on</strong>e timer. Dylan Mc-<br />
D<strong>on</strong>ald buried <strong>the</strong> Seahawks’ fourth goal <strong>on</strong> a nasty<br />
shot, upper left, following a tremendous feed from<br />
Thomas Capad<strong>on</strong>na.<br />
Milt<strong>on</strong> quickly resp<strong>on</strong>ded, leaving <strong>the</strong> score at 4-1<br />
after two. Solid defensive play from <strong>the</strong> Aidan Sylvester,<br />
Matty Belsan, Jack Ryan, and Chris Sullivan<br />
frustrated <strong>the</strong> Milt<strong>on</strong> offensive attack in <strong>the</strong> third and<br />
<strong>the</strong>y were able to generate some nice outlet plays.<br />
This solid play in <strong>the</strong>ir own z<strong>on</strong>e set up <strong>the</strong> Seahawks’<br />
next goal. With Scott camped out in fr<strong>on</strong>t of <strong>the</strong> net,<br />
Leary found space down low and made a nice pass to<br />
Scott, who <strong>on</strong>e-timed it home. McD<strong>on</strong>ald closed out<br />
<strong>the</strong> scoring <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> Seahawks <strong>on</strong> ano<strong>the</strong>r sweet corner<br />
pass from <strong>the</strong> gritty Capad<strong>on</strong>na. This time McD<strong>on</strong>ald<br />
made a move to his backhand and roofed it.<br />
<strong>The</strong> win went to goalie Ryan Roseanau, who was<br />
again solid between <strong>the</strong> pipes. Coach Karle noted that<br />
<strong>the</strong> solid defensive play opened up <strong>the</strong> ice and <strong>the</strong> team<br />
was able to ride that str<strong>on</strong>g ef<strong>for</strong>t by <strong>the</strong> blueliners<br />
throughout <strong>the</strong> game.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Pee Wee B team took <strong>on</strong> a resilient Hingham<br />
squad, falling 3-1 over <strong>the</strong> weekend. It was a hardfought<br />
game with both teams trading solid play <strong>on</strong><br />
both sides of <strong>the</strong> ice.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Seahawks came out with a little extra step and<br />
put <strong>the</strong> team ahead early in <strong>the</strong> first period with Christian<br />
Raeside burying <strong>the</strong> puck following a Hingham<br />
turnover. Hingham resp<strong>on</strong>ded quickly <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong> power<br />
play, beating <strong>the</strong> Seahawks’ net minder glove-side.<br />
<strong>The</strong> teams battled through a scoreless sec<strong>on</strong>d period.<br />
Seahawks’ penalties in <strong>the</strong> third opened <strong>the</strong> door<br />
<strong>for</strong> Hingham as it netted two goals to seal <strong>the</strong> game<br />
midway through <strong>the</strong> period.<br />
Coach Olivieri commented that <strong>the</strong> team never<br />
gave up and <strong>the</strong> ef<strong>for</strong>t will be something <strong>the</strong>y build <strong>on</strong>.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Squirt B White team battled Hanover B<br />
White, losing 6-2. <strong>The</strong> team got big saves from net<br />
minder Shea Sullivan, but <strong>the</strong> team just couldn’t beat<br />
his tough Hanover counterpart until <strong>the</strong> third period.<br />
Jack Thomps<strong>on</strong> got <strong>the</strong> Seahawks <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong> scoreboard<br />
early in <strong>the</strong> third period <strong>on</strong> a juicy rebound. Will Hoyt<br />
took <strong>the</strong> initial shot and was credited with <strong>the</strong> assist.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Seahawks’ next tally came off <strong>the</strong> stick of<br />
Ryan Flynn. Jack Bed<strong>for</strong>d circled <strong>the</strong> top of <strong>the</strong> offensive<br />
z<strong>on</strong>e and, catching Flynn out of <strong>the</strong> corner of<br />
his eye, made a nice pass <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> assist.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Squirt B White squad is looking <strong>for</strong>ward to<br />
facing a top Hingham Red team in <strong>the</strong>ir next tilt. ∞<br />
