Situation Update<br />

Number of Inci<strong>de</strong>nts Reported during January-September of 2012<br />

The situation of piracy and armed robbery against ships in Asia for the period of January-September<br />

2012 has improved compared to the same period in 2010 and 2011. A total of 95 inci<strong>de</strong>nts comprising<br />

90 actual inci<strong>de</strong>nts and five attempted inci<strong>de</strong>nts were reported during January-September 2012.<br />

This is a 20% <strong>de</strong>crease in total number compared to January-September 2010 and 2011.<br />

Notably, the largest <strong>de</strong>crease was in the number of attempted inci<strong>de</strong>nts. January-September 2012<br />

reported the lowest number of attempted inci<strong>de</strong>nts among the five-year reporting periods of<br />

January-September of 2008-2012.<br />

Graph 1 shows the number of inci<strong>de</strong>nts reported during January-September of 2008-2012.<br />
