FINANCIAL INFORMATION
FOR UNDERGRADUATE STUDY 2011/12
Congratulations on being offered a place at Oxford. This sheet contains information regarding the costs and
financial support for undergraduate students. Please ensure that you read all the information relating to
your circumstances carefully.
COSTS
UNIVERSITY TUITION FEE
University tuition fees are charged at one of four rates depending on fee status. Fee status is based on
your passport and certain residency criteria; please visit www.ox.ac.uk/feesandfunding/fees/information/feestatus for
more information. Equivalent or lower qualification (ELQ) students are Home/EU students who have
already completed study at undergraduate level and are therefore not eligible for University or UK
government support. The fees for 2011/12 are:
Home/EU £3,375
Islands Contact education departments in Channel Islands and Isle of Man for details
Overseas Between £12,700 and £26,500 depending on course
ELQ Between £7,050 and £11,350 depending on course
COLLEGE FEE
The College fee is a charge for College based tuition and is not payable by Home/EU undergraduates who
are eligible for UK government support; all other students will be expected to pay this. Further information
can be found at www.ox.ac.uk/feesandfunding/fees/information/college.
LIVING COSTS
It is important that students budget for their living costs whilst at University. Please visit
www.ox.ac.uk/feesandfunding/fees/livingcosts/undergraduates for details of estimated living costs at Oxford.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR PAYMENT
You will be expected to pay any fees due to your College at the start of each academic year unless you are
a Home/EU student who has taken out support through the Student Loans Company. It is your
responsibility for ensuring that any University or College fees you are liable for are paid. If you are not
eligible for UK government support, you will need to provide evidence that you have sufficient funding in
place for your living costs and fees before you can commence your studies.
FINANCIAL SUPPORT
UK GOVERNMENT SUPPORT
Tuition fee loans are available to all Home and EU students completing their first undergraduate degree. If
you take out a tuition fee loan, the Student Loans Company will make a payment directly to the University
on your behalf.
The funding available for living costs (maintenance support) depends upon the region of the UK you come
from and your household income. All UK students can access a minimum maintenance loan irrespective of
their household income, which has to be repaid. Non repayable grants and increased loans are available to
those from lower income households. We strongly recommend that you apply for your funding as early as
possible to ensure it is in place for the start of the academic year. You should refer to the website for your
region as detailed below for funding levels and application dates:
OXFORD OPPORTUNITY BURSARY
The Oxford Opportunity Bursary (OOB) was established in 2006 to assist UK students from lower income
households with the cost of undergraduate study at the University of Oxford. The bursaries are nonrepayable
and you do not need to make a separate application, but must be financially assessed in your
application for UK government funding. The University uses the household income figure derived from this
financial assessment in order to calculate any bursary entitlement. When completing your application for
maintenance support please ensure that you and your sponsors have given the University permission to
see your financial assessment information. If we do not have access to this information, we will be unable
to assess you for a bursary. Please visit www.oxfordopportunity.com for more detailed information about the
bursary scheme and related awards. The bursary bandings for 2011 entrants based on their assessed
