GENERAL GUIDELINES <strong>FOR</strong> INSTALLATION SITES<br />

1. PROJECT SAFETY POLICY<br />

It is the policy of (You’re company name), in the undertaking of its business, to<br />

fully comply with the requirements of the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, the<br />

Factories Act 1969 and the Construction Design and Management Regulations<br />

1994. (You’re company name), is committed to providing, so far as it is


easonably practicable a site that is safe for our employees, the employees of<br />

other companies and the general public.<br />

3. SAFETY ARRANGEMENT <strong>AND</strong> CO-ORDINATION<br />

It is the responsibility of the Installation Safety Officer to make sure that all<br />

installation employees have the experience and training necessary to carry out<br />

the works safely. The Site Foreman/Installation Safety Office/Installation<br />

Manager/Supervisor and/or our Contract Manager will if necessary review the<br />

contract performance in terms of safety and execution, take action as necessary<br />

and advise all parties of any changes to the works which may affect Health and<br />

Safety. This information will be conveyed either verbally or in writing.<br />

IMMEDIATE ACTION will be taken, if necessary to make the site safe.<br />

4. INTRODUCTION <strong>AND</strong> SCHEME SPECIFICATION<br />

8. VEHICLE OFF-LOADING <strong>AND</strong> DISTRIBUTION TO THE WORKFACE<br />

Delivery vehicles will be driven to the unloading dock and off loaded by hand.<br />

Materials will be distributed to the Build Area via the goods lift or stairs.<br />

9. RESTRICTIONS APPLICABLE TO INSTALLATION PERSONNEL <strong>AND</strong> THEIR<br />

VEHICLES, PLANT <strong>AND</strong> MATERIALS.<br />

a. Installation personnel shall wear at all times standard protective equipment (hard<br />

hats, toe protective footwear and high visibility jerkins). When circumstances<br />

dictate harnesses, ear protection and eye protection shall be worn.<br />

Installation personnel shall report to Mr _________ for a site safety briefing (if<br />

applicable) prior to commencement of works and shall comply with the site safety<br />

rules at all times. The installation foreman will if required be available for periodic<br />

site safety meetings.<br />

Installation personnel shall be made aware of this document and briefed in its<br />

contents.<br />

b. Delivery vehicles shall be off loaded at the agreed location only.<br />

c. Plant if used shall conform to current legislation. All operators will be suitably<br />

trained and certified.<br />

Plant if used shall only be stored in the areas designated by The Client and Link<br />

(You’re company name). Diesel equipment, if used, shall be filled with DERV<br />

from jerry cans each morning. Propane gas will be carried on the plant.<br />

d. Materials will be marshalled, stored and assembled within the area designated by<br />

The Client and (You’re company name).<br />

10. COSHH – Control of Substances Hazardous to Health<br />

If applicable to this contract.<br />

11. WORKING AT HEIGHT<br />

Step ladders will be used for shelf installation.<br />

Any person working at 2.0 metres or above will wear a full body harness clipped<br />

to a secure point via one lanyard.<br />

13. NOISE<br />

Access towers if used, will be erected and verified by the tower provider.


Noise on site will be kept to the lowest level, reasonably practicable. Where this<br />

is not possible, noise levels will be measured and control measures discussed<br />

with the site safety Co-Ordinator.<br />

14. WASTE DISPOSAL<br />

Dry non hazardous industrial waste will be removed from our work site daily to<br />

skips provided by The Client. Waste will not be allowed to accumulate, waste of<br />

a hazardous nature will be generated by our works. Concrete dust generated by<br />

floor drilling will be vacuumed up as drilling progresses.<br />

15. WELFARE ARRANGEMENTS<br />

The Client to provide toilets, washing and messing facilities on a shared welfare<br />

basis.<br />

16. PORTABLE TOOLS<br />

All portable tools will be 110 volt, and will be kept and maintained in good<br />

condition. 240 volt tools, if used will be operated through a RCCB.<br />

17. POWER SOCKETS<br />

Socket outlets and task lighting will be required in all of the work locations.<br />

Temporary distribution boards supplied by the Client for our use shall be used on<br />

the basis that such equipment has been tested by a competent person and that<br />

the test results are available.<br />

18. HOT WORKING.<br />

Hot working, if necessary, shall be covered by a permit to work, issued by the<br />

Principal Contractor.

<strong>FOR</strong><br />

EURO SHELVING


INSTALLATION SPECIFICATION<br />

The shelving system will be designed and manufactured and installed under quality<br />

management systems conforming to International Quality Standards BSEN ISO<br />

9002:1994 and Quality Assessment Schedules (QAS) 2000 Category A, for Pallet<br />

Racking and Shelving. On going checks of installation tolerance will be made for all<br />

shelving installed and on completion a certificate of compliance will be issued.<br />

NOTE : The following Method Statement is a guide to safely installing the shelving<br />

media for (Clients name).<br />

We reserve the right to alter or amend all or any part of this Method Statement should we<br />

feel that improvements to working safety could be made. Should we do so we will<br />

confirm the amendment in writing to the site safety Co-Ordinator.<br />

BUILDING ENVELOPE SURVEY<br />

All areas will be surveyed to validate the shelving layout.<br />

POSITIONING <strong>AND</strong> FIXING<br />

All elements of the installation will be datumed and set up to the dimensions detailed on<br />

the above drawing.<br />

All shelving within a height (top shelf) to depth ratio of 4:1 will be free standing. Shelving<br />

outside this ratio will be floor fixed using M6 expansion fixings.


EURO SHELVING INSTALLATION <strong>METHOD</strong>OLOGY<br />

Euro shelving is a modular system, which clips together. It is supplied on this contract<br />

with solid frames, open and mesh backs.<br />

To commence installation a pair of frames will be selected, foot plates fixed, and shelf<br />

clips locked into the slots in uprights at the pitch to suit shelf positions.<br />

Rear bracing will be fixed as necessary. Frame and rear mesh will be fitted and<br />

accessories as applicable. SEMA load signs will be fitted to selective bays.<br />
