Educational Objectives Upon conclusion of this course, participants will be able to: • Review the key components of the current robotic systems and their advantages/disadvantages compared to conventional laparoscopy. • Demonstrate the current applications of the robotic technology in the areas of general surgery: bariatric, colorectal surgery, foregut, endocrine, hepatobiliary, pancreas, and hernias. • Describe the standard robotic port placement and variations for extenuating patient circumstances to include patients with prior abdominal surgery and obesity. • Acquire a sound knowledge of the detailed surgical steps and philosophies of the various general surgery procedures accomplished with robotic assistance. • Describe the future of surgery, including how current and future innovations will impact general surgery.
