<strong>View</strong> vfashion Going for BOLD by Teresa Walsh Accessories play a major part in defining style and can make or break an outfit, so knowing which will complement your look – and which won’t – is vital. This summer’s burning advice, if you dare, is to use bold accessories. Key to this ‘let’s-get-noticed’ look, are sunglasses, currently making a huge fashion statement. The look isn’t written in stone, with varied trends making the news. Two of the biggest hits are over-sized shades (a throwback to the Seventies) and bright, bold, coloured sunglasses. Which sunglasses you choose should depend on the shape of your face, as well as your taste in fashion. If you have an oval face you’re lucky enough to be able to wear most styles, so try over-sized or aviator. Round faces are balanced by slightly smaller shapes or angled styles. Make sure the frame doesn’t go beyond the widest part: think Dame Edna. Square faces are flattered by curvy styles or cool wraparounds, taking attention from your jaw line. Aviators and other slightly angular styles work with a heart-shaped face, balancing a wide forehead and narrower chin. If you have a long face, get width from over-sized rounded or square styles. Metallics are also big news at the moment, so get an instant update with shiny shoes, capacious handbags, bold belts and chunky, statement jewellery such as coloured beads and layers of jingly bangles. The over-sized bag is still with us, but so are rucksacks and the faithful clutch. Choose over-the-top metallics, zingy colours or animal prints. If you’re aiming for a natural look, try raffia or straw. Hats have made a comeback this summer, in straw or bold, coloured cotton. Take your pick from trilbies, wide-brimmed (great for protection from holiday sun) and the chic pillbox.
