Pupils’ A series that gives pupils the chance to say what aspects of school life they enjoy The spotlight this month is on Avondale School THE SPORT ‘At Avondale School there are a selection of sports. My favourite is football but we also play cricket in the summer and tag rugby. I have been pleased to play against other schools for the school team. I love the lunches, they are delicious. I have great fun in After School Care, especially when we play together on the field.’ Peter, Year 4 THE TEACHERS ‘I like Avondale because the teachers respect you as you are and don’t have favourites like in some schools. My teachers always give you help if you need it. The activities are fun and challenging. I love Avondale.’ Isabel, Year 5 ‘The playground is big enough for all the Infants to have fun and we have a stage and a playhouse on the field. I like my school because I have lots of friends. I like PE with all the apparatus. We have a snack in the morning with our teachers – I love my teachers, they help us with our work. Bonnie, Year 1 ‘I love the teachers because they are funny. I have lots of friends at Avondale even though I haven’t been here long.’ Thomas, Year2 ‘We have lunch and it is lovely. I liked it when we went to the museum. I dressed up in a Tudor costume. All the teachers are nice to me and so are my friends. I like Avondale School because everyone is nice to each other.’ Polly, Year 1 THE SCHOOL ‘My time at Avondale has been great fun. The sport is enjoyable, the food delicious and the teachers are clever and kind. In history we get to make PowerPoint presentations on the topics we are studying and present them to the class. Avondale has given me opportunities and I feel more confident about leaving to go to secondary school. Thank you Avondale.’ Henry, Year 6 ‘I really like Avondale because it has made me a better person and helped me to believe in myself. It is a great and friendly environment.’ Brooke, Year 6 ‘In our school we have the best lunches ever! I enjoy doing library duty. I think the best bit is that all the teachers respect you and care for you. There are small classes so the teachers can talk to me to make sure I understand everything.’ Freddie, Year 5 ‘Everyone is happy and this is a friendly school.’ Chelsea-May, Year 5 THE OPPORTUNITIES ‘School trips have been great fun and I’m really looking forward to Dartmoor and the caving. But it is all the good little things at Avondale that make it a brilliant school.’ Jamie, Year 6 ‘My view of Avondale is that it is a very good school with kind teachers and friendly people. The food is brilliant. I was at Avondale since reception and feel that it has really helped me move on to secondary school. Avondale does a lot of school trips. Each one I found just as exciting as the one before. The best trip had to be the Dartmoor residential trip. We learnt how to put up a tent, how to cook on a camping stove, we went for a walk and went caving. It was fantastic. ‘Avondale has prepared me for the adventures that I face in the world. It has also prepared me for secondary school. I am doing really well at my new school. When I left Avondale I felt ready to go and had learnt a lot of life skills.’ Ellie, Year 7 Pupils’ THE CARE ‘I like After School Care Club, it is good.’ Kieran, Year 1 THE LEARNING ‘I enjoy French because it is good to learn a new language, and Maths is great: there are some good activities on the Interactive Whiteboard. I found being a prefect challenging but liked the responsibility.’ Sam, Year 6 ‘I like doing lots of painting.
