HESED
SMILE ! OUR FOOD DRIVE WAS THE BEST EVER !
This spring’s Ruth Goldberg Food Drive was a huge
success! Thanks to our many wonderful donors and
the great efforts of our callers, drivers and sorters,
hundreds of pounds of food were collected along with
generous donations of money (over $1500 in fact).
Your generosity means that, for a time at least, many
youngsters will go to bed with full tummies and their
parents, too, will have the pleasure of knowing that
there will be food on the family’s plates for a little
while longer. That thought makes us smile happily.
We’re certain that it will give you great joy, too.
RABBI GROVER’S TORAH ON TOUR
WHAT YOU THINK OF ME
Our Torah portion this week includes the tragic story of the scouts who led the nation to doubt their ability to defeat the
Canaanite armies. There are many ways to interpret the sin of these scouts based on the report they bring back to the Israelites.
One of the most interesting interpretations is that of the Kotzker Rebbe.
The Kotzker explains that in describing the enormous size of the Canaanite giants, the scouts claim, “we were in our eyes like
grasshoppers, and so we were in their eyes.” Herein, he suggests, lies the fundamental mistake of the scouts. They concerned
themselves too much with how others viewed them.
True self-confidence is the ability to find pride and worth in ourselves regardless of what others think of us. Until our
ancestors were able to learn that lesson, they would not be ready to enter the land.
