Fairfield Destin Welcome to the world’s most
beautiful beaches! From the moment your gaze
catches the sparkling green and blue surf and
sugar-white sands, you’ll know you’re in for a
fabulous vacation. June 5 marks the 49th
Annual Sprint Billy Bowlegs Pirate Festival, a
weeklong crowd-drawer featuring food, arts and
crafts, music, an evening fireworks display, the
Billy Bowlegs Armada landing, a mock battle
with the city militia and torchlight parade with
krewes in full pirate regalia. The Fourth of July
provides another opportunity to enjoy fireworks
— only this time it’s seaside. • Destin Harbor,
also deemed “Luckiest Fishing Village in the
World,” not only offers great fishing, but halfday
party boat rentals and charter boats. In
August, Destin hosts the King Mackerel
Tournament for the competitive fisherman.
Even if you don’t have your sea legs, a walk on
the docks to watch the fishing boats arrive is a
unique experience in itself. Most harbor restaurants
even have their own boats to bring the
catch of the day straight to your table! • If golf
is your bag, there are over 10 courses within a
five-mile radius and four outside your back
door just minutes away in Sandestin. • Newly
opened Destin Commons Mall and Silver Sands
Destin opens the door to the best in fishing and pleasure
boating, with an abundance of coves and bays to explore.

Mall, the largest outlet mall in the South, tantalize
the avid shopper with their numerous
shops. Whatever your fancy, Destin is sure to
leave a sunny impression!

Beach offers something for everyone. The
Summer Sounds Concert Series, featuring
music, fun and dancing in nearby Ormond
Beach, takes place June 16 to July 28. • For
you NASCAR fans, the famous Pepsi 400
race, held under the lights at Daytona
International Speedway, is scheduled to
take off Saturday, July 3. Be sure to get
your tickets now! • Completing the busy
Fourth of July weekend is
the fireworks show on
the Halifax River on
Sunday. In nearby
Ormond Beach, the Independence
Day celebration on July 4 will be
held in the parks surrounding
Granada Bridge from 6-9 p.m. •
Seaside Music Theater will perform
“Two Gentlemen of
Verona” June 17 to July 11, and Peter Rabbit’s
Children’s Theater Party begins June 26 and
runs through August 7. The company will also
present Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” July 29
through August 15. • East Coast Cruiser Nights,
July 10 and 24 and August 14, will draw antique
car and street hotrod lovers from all over.
Whatever your scene, Daytona Beach is your
pass to fun in the sun.
Fairfield Orlando The Revenge of the Mummy
has awakened at Universal Studios Florida! On
May 21, Universal unwraps its new hybrid coaster/dark
ride. Touted to be “the next generation of
theme park attractions,” Revenge of the Mummy
will plunge you into total darkness as you face
fireballs, scarab beetles and an army of warrior
mummies on a psychological thrill ride. • If
you’re a flower lover, don’t miss Disney’s 11th
annual Epcot International Flower & Garden

combine for Star Wars Weekends, happening
select weekends through June 13 at Disney-
MGM Studios. Special parades, trivia games and
meet-and-greet sessions
with Star Wars legends
and characters take place
throughout the park, with the
Star Tours thrill ride serving as the
centerpiece of the celebration. • Most
people consider Orlando synonymous
with theme parks, but the
city proudly boasts of its local flavor
as well. The annual Lake
Eola Picnic in the Park is held on
the Fourth of July in downtown Orlando and
includes games, entertainment and a fabulous
evening fireworks show. • Also on July 4 is the
